Big Brother 27 - The ORG'ers Finale Update

It’s a bittersweet time as our contest comes to a close.  I’ve had a great summer ranting about these idiots during the updates. I hope you enjoyed the game as much as I did!

But we don’t stand on sentiment when there are points to be given out! Let’s get to it!

First, a look at the rosters:

Second, 5 bonus points to Will and Melissa for knowing Vince’s evil twin is Dudley Dooright villain Snidely Whiplash!

On to the final update!

Ashley and Morgan kick off the finale with a Judge’s hug (2 points for “Speak in the opening vignette” [Ashley] to Kat!), (2 points for “Speak in the opening vignette: [Morgan] to Will, Amy, Morgan, Melissa, Aly and Angela!).

When last we left the Final 3, Part 1 of the HOH competition had just begun and as always it’s a test of endurance.  Suspended in midair, they have to hold onto their floating contraption as it sways and spins.  I was sick just watching it.

Vince says he gets motion sickness, which means this competition is torture.  Good. He wants $750,000? SUFFER!  He wants the choice on who to take because while he’s sure about Morgan….he’s not sure. He outlasts Ashley, who drops after about a half hour, but the season’s comp queen will not be denied.  She’s still hanging around when he drops at the 53 minute mark, meaning…. (7 points for “Win HOH Part 1” [Morgan] to Will, Amy, Morgan, Melissa, Aly and Angela!).  She will skip to HOH Part III while Vince and Ashley duke it out in Part II.

We finally get some time with the jury, as Cody hosts.  The main theme is “We want to hear them take accountability for their game. And when the jury says “them”, they mean “Vince”.  I came away from that segment thinking it was almost a split jury.

Frankie Grande returns to host HOH Part II, and both Vince and Morgan immediately know him. (5 points for “Mention a previous season’s houseguest” [Vince] to Scott!), (5 points for “Mention a previous season’s houseguest” [Morgan] to Will, Amy, Morgan, Melissa, Aly and Angela!).

In this competition, they have to knock down giant Mastermind billboards made of blocks by swinging down a zipline and crashing into them.  Finally, a comp I’d like to do!  When they are done, they have to find the blocks that create faces of 6 houseguests.  When done with that, they can open an envelope which contains instructions on how to decode the puzzle.

AND UNCOVER THE MASTERMIND’S SECRET IDENTITY!

While Vince thinks he needs to win (1 point for “Mention ‘I need to win Veto’” [Vince] to Scott!), Ashley is also dying to win.

I couldn't have guessed

Vince knocks down all the billboards first and takes a big lead, finishing the puzzle before Ashley has finished knocking her billboards down.  The passcode to finish the competition is “The order each of them left the game:” but Vince misreads it and thinks it’s the day they left the game.

He knows all the days, and quickly enters them, but he’s wrong.  He needs to re-read the clue but in his panic, he can’t recognize his mistake.  And Ashley gains on him. He tries combination of day after day, all to the tune of the “wrong” buzzer.  Morgan hides her face behind her hands, realizing the problem.  He gets more and more frustrated as Ashley catches up to him.

A live look inside Vince’s head

Ashley who hasn’t won a thing in 80+ days, falls into the same trap but she keeps her head long enough to re-read the card. Realizing her mistake, she doesn’t let on to Vince what he’s done so wrong.  She quickly finishes off the challenge and takes home her first win since Week 1!  (9 points for “Win HOH Part II” [Ashley] to Kat!).  Believing he just lost $750,000 drives him to predictable tears, though this time I can’t blame him. (1 point for “Shown on camera crying” [Vince] to Scott!)

Following Ashley’s win, a video showing the unmasked Mastermind is shown and it’s…DR. WILL KIRBY! No wonder Cody hosted the jury!

Back in the house, Vince feels like the dumbest person ever, Morgan isn’t sure who she would take and Ashley just needs to win this last comp, take out Morgan and win the game.

Easy peasy

At HOH Part III, Ashley and Morgan need to evaluate three statements made by each Juror, and identify which is false.  Most correct after six wins.

They both get #1 right. Ashley gets #2 but Morgan misses it and starts to panic. Ashley gets #3 and Morgan misses again.  When Ashley bags #4…its over! (11 points for “Win HOH Part III” [Ashley] to Kat!). Ashley is going to the Final 2 and has her choice of competitor!

That sound you just heard is nearly everyone’s games coming to an end

At the live eviction meeting, Morgan and Ashley look like they’re going to the Oscars.  Vince is dressed like he’s going to visit Oscar the Grouch.  Both his and Morgan’s speeches are short and sweet.  She looks truly nervous here, but she stays true to her plan, evicting Morgan.

(1 point for “Received vote” [Morgan] to Will, Amy, Morgan, Melissa, Aly and Angela!),

(-2 points for “Evicted” [Morgan] to Will, Amy, Morgan, Melissa, Aly and Angela!)

(2 points for “Jury member” [Morgan] to Will, Amy, Morgan, Melissa, Aly and Angela!)

Morgan is completely at peace with how it ended in her interview with Julie, saying she’d have taken Ashley but Ashley was right to evict her.  To say the jury didn’t expect this outcome is an understatement

Gobsmacked

Rachel is visibly excited at the news that Ashley won the final HOH.

Now that the jury is final, my predictions are: Kelley, Lauren, Rachel, Will, Ava vote Ashley, Morgan votes Vince, and Keanu votes Vince too, despite his threats.

The jury questions are harsh, but Ashley has come to PLAY.  She’s clearly practiced, knows exactly what she wants to say and is leaving no word unsaid.  Her answers are fantastic and they’re blowing Vince out of the water.

Vince’s only truly positive argument in his favor is that he was in a decisive position for most of the game, whether in power or not. After betraying virtually the entire jury, it’s all he has and when he says that he may have turned allies into enemies, but he also turned them back into allies, Kelley visibly scoffs.  Finally, he actually said  “I got my best friend Lauren to use the Veto on me”.

A live look at Morgan’s heart

Ashley DESTROYED him in this talking competition and as the votes are cast, I’m wondering if it’s going to be a clean sweep.

Before we get to find out, the Mastermind shows back up and it’s….Mr. Pectacular?  He doesn’t seem like the Mastermind type to me.  But wait….another Mastermind shows up…and it’s Frankie Grande!  A THIRD Mastermind shows up and it’s Eric from Season 8!  All of them were screwed by game twists, and you know the old adage…if you can’t beat the twist…become one!

Finally, the votes are revealed. Morgan voted for Vince despite his final faux pas.  Lauren, Kelley, and Keanu, pay his betrayals back by voting for Ashley. In a truly shocking turn of events, Ashley is crowned the winner of Big Brother 27 and Keanu takes home America’s Favorite Player.

(5 points for “3rd place [Morgan!)

(8 points for “2nd place” [Vince] to Scott!)

(15 points for “Winner” [Ashley] to Kat!)

(12 points for “America’s Favorite Player” [Keanu]!)

So, what does that mean for our final scores?

Finishing in 12th place with 180 points….LIA!

Finishing in 11th place with 201 points….BLAKE!

Finishing in 10th place with 207 points…ANGELA!

Finishing in 9th place with 213 points…NICKOLE!

Finishing in 8th place with 227 points…AMY!

Finishing in 7th place with 251 points…KAT!

Finishing in 6th place with 261 points…ALY!

Finishing in 5th place with 278…SLATER!

Finishing in 4th place with 280 points…SCOTT!

Finishing in 3rd place with 291 points…MELISSA!

Finishing in 2nd place with 299 points…MORGAN!

Which means our winner with 333 points, AND NEW PRETEND POINTS BIG BROTHER 27 CHAMPION IS….

WILL!

He was in 1st for almost the entire season and refused to let it go.  Congratulations on your victory and thanks again for playing! See you all next summer for Big Brother 28!

Second, 5 bonus points to Will, Amy, Melissa, Morgan and Slater for knowing “One Eternity Later” comes from SpongeBob Squarepants!  Thirdly, 5 secret bonus points to Morgan for sending me the secret phrase “Murdered Pizza”!  That poor pizza didn’t deserve it!

On to the update!

We kick the week off with Kelley’s exit to the jury house (2 points for “Speak in the opening vignette” [Kelley] to Amy!) and are reminded that Lauren followed her out the door (1 point for “Shown on camera in gray” [Lauren] to no one!).

Ava only has Ashley left, and they create a Final 2 called “Will’s Daughters” and realize they control the outcome of any vote that they’re not part of.

(3 points for “Shown on camera making a Final 2” [Ava] to Melissa and Blake!)

(3 points for “Shown on camera making a Final 2” [Ashley] to Will, Kat and Angela!)

(3 points for “Name an alliance” [Ava] to Melissa and Blake!)

Morgan is psyched that her first HOH resulted in Lauren going to jury despite (or because of) how Vince felt about her (1 point for “Mention ‘in this game’” [Vince] to Scott and Aly!). Vince hopes he made the right decision evicting Kelley (1 point for “Shown on camera in gray” [Kelley] to Amy!) and knows Keanu needs to go next, but for unknowable reasons the lug head STILL thinks Vince is on his side. I want to like Keanu but…

You can't be THAT stupid, right? RIGHT??!?!

The Mastermind, who I think is Boston Rob, announces a unique eviction vote and tells them to be ready at a moment’s notice.  Ava and Ashley know this is their time – if Vince doesn’t win, Morgan needs to go.

The HOH competition is the Pressure Cooker! An iconic comp!  Extra points for having the winner!

In this pressure cooker, they have to stand on a platform while pressing a sword against a mask on the altar.  Come off the platform, or the mask drops, and you lose which is something Vince cannot have (1 point for “Mention ‘I need to win HOH’” [Vince] to Scott and Aly!). Ashley thinks she’s in the best social position in the house but wants to build her resume (1 point for “Mention ‘in this game’” [Ashley] to Will, Kat and Angela!).

Ava knows she has no shot and quickly drops.  Ashley soon follows her.

Question:  Have there ever been two houseguests who said, “I need to win this competition” and lost more than these two?  EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

Anyway, it comes down to Keanu vs. Vince, and the barbarian tries some distraction techniques, chattering away, asking pointless questions, making it tough for Vince to concentrate.  He even begins pitching Vince to get rid of Morgan as a resume builder.  Unfortunately for Keanu, he’s the only person who gets distracted.  Out of nowhere, he loses focus and drops meaning…(5 points for “Win HOH” [Vince] to Scott and Aly!), and (3 points for “Win iconic comp” [Vince] to Scott and Aly!).

Vince is going to build that resume with a big move, all right, but not the one Keanu wants. Ava doesn’t think this is ideal, while Morgan sees her path to the end become clear, and Will and Rachel will gag when they see who was evicted. (1 point for “Shown on camera in gray” [Rachel] to Nickole!), (1 point for “Shown on camera in gray” [Will] to Lia!).

Ideally, Morgan wants Keanu gone, then Ava so the Judges will be the Final 3. Ava thinks America couldn’t make it up that the same guy will put her on the same block again.

Oh, yes I can!

Keanu tells Vince that keeping Morgan safe is a 2nd place move. Using the same tactic, Ava tries to convince Vince that everyone thinks Morgan ran his game and the right move is to nominate both Keanu and Morgan to ensure one of them goes home. That would be PretendPoints Rule #3 Playing to Win: Mid-to-late game opportunities to dismiss a stronger player shall not be passed up, even if allied with that player.  There’s only one winner.

But Vince is a spineless weasel and Morgan owns him, so that’s not going to happen.

At the nomination ceremony, Vince weasels out nominating Keanu and Ava. (3 points for “Nominated for eviction” [Ava] to Melissa and Blake!), and (3 points for “Nominated for eviction” [Keanu] to Amy, Blake, Morgan, Melissa and Slater!).

On Wednesday, Keanu and Ava open the show (2 points for “Speak in the opening vignette” [Keanu] to Amy, Blake, Morgan, Melissa and Slater!), and (3 points for “Speak in the opening vignette” [Ava] to Melissa and Blake!).  Vince explains to us that Keanu could win his way to the Final 2, ignoring the fact that Morgan has won more competitions. Every reason Vince shares why Keanu should go applies more to Morgan.

Without a hint of irony, Ava tells us she needs to win Veto (1 point for “Mention ‘I need to win Veto’” [Ava] to Melissa and Blake!). Keanu tells us that he let up intentionally in the HOH, and while that’s a healthy dose of Copium, Keanu is pretty angry with Vince. Finally, Ava and Ashley plot pointlessly about what they’d do when they win Veto.

It’s another iconic Veto competition – Tiny Figures!  Extra points for the winner!  They need to use tweezers to stack 30 pieces to match the Mastermind’s portrait.  And while they fall again, and again, and again, and again I don’t judge. I couldn’t do this in a month. Keanu knows he needs to win (1 point for “Mention ‘I need to win Veto’” [Keanu] to Amy, Blake, Morgan, Melissa and Slater!) but that doesn’t stop Morgan’s late-season surge.  She takes home her umpteenth Veto in a row! (4 points for “Win Veto” [Morgan] to Scott, Will, Kat, Morgan, Aly, Nickole, Angela, Lia and Slater!), (3 points for “Win an iconic comp” [Morgan] to Scott, Will, Kat, Morgan, Aly, Nickole, Angela, Lia and Slater!) securing her safety (1 point for “Mention ‘in this game’” [Morgan] to Scott, Will, Kat, Morgan, Aly, Nickole, Angela, Lia and Slater!). The failure leads Ava to tears (1 point for “Shown on camera crying” [Ava] to Melissa and Blake!) and Ashley to tell us again that she wants Morgan gone.

To do that, you have to win

Keanu is so angry that he threatens Vince with his jury vote, but Vince is doing what he thinks is best for his game (1 point for “Mention ‘in this game’” [Vince] to Scott and Aly!) and tries to convince Ashley that he’d take her to Final 2. Ashley is really considering his pitch (1 point for “Mention ‘in this game’ [Ashley] to Will, Kat and Angela!) when they get called for the Veto meeting.

Morgan chooses to keep nominations the same and The Mastermind tells them the vote will be in one hour. Ava decides to be chill, as Keanu is the target.  Keanu makes strong arguments to Vince, but Vince isn’t listening.

At the vote, trusting the wrong person all season finally burns Keanu as both Vince and choose to make him Juror #5.

(2 points for “Received vote against” [Keanu] to Amy, Blake, Morgan, Melissa and Slater!)

(-2 points for “Evicted” [Keanu] to Amy, Blake, Morgan, Melissa and Slater!)

(2 points for “Jury member” [Keanu] to Amy, Blake, Morgan, Melissa and Slater!)

When Vince announces it’s time for the HOH comp, Ashley tells us it’s time for Morgan to go, again,  and Ava tells us she has to win it….again.  (1 point for “Mention ‘I need to win HOH’” [Ava] to Melissa and Blake!)

Thursday’s show opens with the eminently quotable queen of the opening vignette, Ava (2 points for “Speak in the opening vignette” [Ava] to Melissa and Blake!). At the HOH comp, they have to move a human sized cube from the inside such that a specific icon ends up on top at the entrance. First to three wins and Ashley can taste how much winning would put her closer to the end.

It's comical at this point

Competing against Ava and Ashley is exactly Morgan’s design (1 point for “Shown on camera in gray” [Keanu] to Amy, Blake, Morgan, Melissa and Slater!) and she’s 100% correct on why – they are pathetically bad competitors. Morgan quickly dispatches them, 3-0 winning her 2nd HOH (5 points for “Win HOH” [Morgan] to Scott, Will, Kat, Morgan, Aly, Nickole, Angela, Lia and Slater!).  That doesn’t stop Ava from telling us she needs to win Veto to save herself though.  Do they even hear themselves?  (1 point for “Mention ‘I need to win Veto’” [Ava] to Melissa and Blake!).  5 points if you send me the phrase tone deaf. These points are in addition to other bonus points.

As Morgan recounts her recent competition dominance to Vince, he finally starts seeing how good her resume looks.  Talking with Ava about the Veto, he doesn’t believe Morgan would nominate him. Should Vince win Veto Ava tries to convince him to use it on her, as Morgan will take Ashley to the Final 2.  (1 point for “Mention ‘I need to win Veto’” [Vince] to Scott and Aly!). Twirling his moustache while considering it makes Vince look like a true villain.

At the nomination ceremony, Ava and Ashley are predictably put on the block. (3 points for “Nominated for eviction” [Ava] to Melissa and Blake!), and (3 points for “Nominated for eviction” [Ashley] to Will, Kat and Angela!).

At the Veto competition, they have to identify what events took place on which dates. Another iconic comp!  Extra points for the winner!

Ava and Ashley are predictably slow, and while Vince has good pace and process, Morgan’s process is better, and she moves as if possessed.  She quickly dispatches the competition again, winning her umpteenth +1 Veto (4 points for “Win Veto” [Morgan] to Scott, Will, Kat, Morgan, Aly, Nickole, Angela, Lia and Slater!), (3 points for “Win iconic comp” [Morgan] to Scott, Will, Kat, Morgan, Aly, Nickole, Angela, Lia and Slater!).

While everyone congratulates Morgan, Ashley….REALLY WANTED TO WIN.  I know they get fed their lines by production but at this point, I’d be for something….anything…else to say. It’s embarrassing.  Ava knows she’s in danger and has to…trust…Vince. Good luck with that.

Vince channels his inner Keanu while recounting his and Morgan’s recent good fortune and sticks his foot squarely in his mouth saying he’d be dominating the 2nd half if she wasn’t here.  I’m flabbergasted here. She has the Veto and hasn’t used it yet! What are you doing????  Ashley positions Morgan taking Vince to Final 2 as a crazy choice, as Vince never prioritized her and playing to win might mean having to evict him.

Morgan considers Ashey’s solid argument, thinking she can beat both Ava and Ashley, but Vince might be the more difficult path.  I think at this point Morgan beats everyone pretty easily, but why take chances?

At the live Veto and eviction, Morgan chooses not to use the Veto and while Ava doesn’t want to hear from Vince again, Ashley couldn’t be happier to be here (1 point for “Mention ‘in this game’” [Ashley] to Will, Kat and Angela!).  Vince chooses to evict Ava, and she becomes Juror #6.

(1 point for “Received vote against” [Ava] to Melissa and Blake!)

(-2 points for “Evicted” [Ava] to Melissa and Blake!)

(2 points for “Jury member” [Ava] to Melissa and Blake!)

Heading into Sunday’s finale, what does this mean for our scores?

In the shock of the season, Ava led all scorers this week with 20 points towering over the 12 both Morgan and Vince put up!  That’s what creating a Final 2, naming an alliance, and being nominated twice will do for you!

Melissa led all scorers with 36 points this week, followed by Blake with 31. Morgan and Slater put up the 3rd most at 28 each.

Will retains a healthy 35-point lead over 2nd place Morgan with 3rd place Slater one point behind her, and it looks like Finale night will be a formality. Melissa jumps past me into 4th. Aly remains in 6th. Separated by only 2 points, Kat, Nickole, and Amy duke it out for 7th – 9th. Blake’s 10 points back, and 9 points ahead of 11th place Angela as Lia resides in the basement.
