Survivor 46: Week 4

With Bhanu’ s brief, pathetic stay in Fiju finally turned into the vacation it should have been, we pick back up at Yanu where they’ve still got no fire, and get rained on despite having a tarp.  Q is losing it while Tiff and Kenzie share some gallows humor while Q half-jokes about quitting, keeping firm grasp of his role as Tribe Martyr.

At Siga, Ben is hurting in the “shelter of pain”, which is not the name of Motley Crue’s latest album. Despite his pain, he’s trying to connect with Charlie and Moriah notices it, which makes him a target.  The girls think Ben or Tim has the idol, and Tim does himself no favors when he starts talking to the Immunity Idol (that’s not a typo).  The whole tribe has landed on the idea that someone moved the Beware advantage and while they haven’t sussed out Jem just yet, Tim does think it was her. He probes at Jem but she wards him off (1 point for “Reference ‘in this game’” to Brian!)  for now.

At Nami, Everyone except for Liz searches for the idol.  I say this with love, as someone who gains points from her activities.  GET THE FUCK UP AND LOOK FOR THE IDOL YOU LAZY ASS!  Not having Randen to follow around anymore, Venus latches on to Hunter but he refuses to search while she’s following him.  Good call too, because he finds and opens the Beware advantage soon after!  (2 points each for “Find Beware Advantage”, “Open Beware Advantage” , and “Complete stage 1 of Beware Advantage” to Ricky!)

At the Immunity and Reward challenge, they have to go through a 3-level obstacle course, collect 3 keys, unlock a pole and use it to unlock sandbags.  Then use the sandbags to hit the targets. First two tribes win immunity and reward, while first overall gets to choose one person from each tribe to go on a Journey.  Jeff also notes that Yanu’s 11 days without flint is a (dubious) record.  Lowercase yay.  Soda, Liz, Tim, Moriah, Charlie and Ben choose to sit out (2 Points each for “Volunteer to sit out challenge” to Scott, Jen, Kristyn, Marissa and Dalphyne!)

Tim and Hunter blow through stage 1, taking a huge lead on Yanu.  Q makes up the time in Stage 2, passing Tim.  Hunter, of course, destroys the Sandbag challenge winning immunity and reward for Nami (3 points each for “Tribe Immunity win” and “Tribe Reward Win” to Ricky, Scott and Jay!).  It comes down to Q vs. Tim again, but this time Yanu pulls out the victory, sending Siga to tribal council!  (3 points for “Tribe Immunity win” and “Tribe reward win” to Roberta!).  How’s it feel to hold the idol, Tiffany?  All she can picture is not waking up cold.  Great answer. Nami chooses Hunter, Q and Tim to go on the journey.  (3 points each for “Go on a journey” to Ricky and Jen!)

At the journey, Q feels great and creates an Alpha Male alliance with Hunter and Tim, and suggests each of them choose one other person to make it a 6-person alliance.  The Cookout called, Tiffany wants her idea back. In this journey, only one person can play and (of course) it’s Hunter. Q and Tim are sent packing with nothing but memories of a nice boat ride and a potential alliance should they make the merge.

Hunter’s game is to arrange each of the 20 Survivor logos in front of him, in order. HAAHHAHAHAHA. He’s so screwed.  Ricky, however, gains some more points when Hunter mentions players from previous seasons (5 points for “Bring up a previous season’s player” to Ricky!).  Unfortunately, Hunter can’t complete the task, meaning he loses his vote (1 point for “Risk your vote on a journey and fail” to Ricky!)

Back at the camps, Kenzie and Tiffany destroy the food they won like it’s a frat house at 2 AM and the Taco Bell just got there.  They do manage to save 1/3 of it for Q though, which means they’re better people than the frat bros I knew.

At loser camp, aka Siga, Ben is genuinely happy for Yanu but Moriah is concerned about how many advantages or idols might be in play.  Having finally lost a challenge, Jem is desperate to go idol hunting.  Her clue instructs her to measure things like the boat, and the tribe sign in “machete lengths” and gives her a formula to compute those lengths. That distance will lead her to where the idol is buried.  I immediately think “Running around with the machete will get me caught. I should hold the machete at one fingertip and see where it gets to on my shoulder”  so you don’t need to run around with it like a ruler.  She doesn’t think it, however….but she gets away with it and finds her idol!  (5 points for “Find hidden immunity idol” and 6 points for “Finish Stage 3 of a Beware Advantage” to Brian!)

The girls talk about splitting the vote to avoid idols. Should they use advantages?  Jem tells Ben she knows he and Tim have a good relationship, tells him who to vote for and she’s promising she won’t flip.  She’s been quiet and clever til now, so this level of aggressiveness really sticks out.  Meanwhile, Charlie and Maria debate on siding with Ben and Tim or Moriah and Jem.

At tribal, this is a long time to wait to get to tribal but now it’s time to rip off the band aid which hurts because they gel so well.  There was a lot of talk about idols and extra votes, and Maria clearly says someone else must’ve found and replaced the Beware advantage.

At the vote, Maria plays her extra vote and no other idols or advantages are played. Ben gets 2 votes, and Jem gets the other 4, meaning she got voted out holding the immunity idol!  Sorry Brian!

(2 points for “Received vote against” to Dalphyne!)  and (4 points for “Receive vote against”, -1 point for “The Tribe Has Spoken”, and -5 points for “Voted out with an idol or advantage in your pocket” to Brian!)

Brian chooses Tiffany as his lifeline.

So, how does this affect the scoring?  Much like Nami, Ricky is riding Hunter’s gameplay to a big lead as he’s 13 points ahead of Jay who’s moved into 2nd place.  Jen, Dalphyne, Carol and Brian are close behind. Kristyn and Marissa remain in earshot while Roberta and I bring up the rear in this week’s current scores:

  1. Ricky: 48
  2. Jay: 35
  3. Jen: 34
  4. Dalphyne: 33
  5. Carol: 32
  6. Brian: 30
  7. Kristyn/Marissa: 27
  8. Scott: 22
  9. Roberta: 20
