Before we get started, a reminder of who has whom:
Second, 5 bonus points each to Carol, Marissa and Kristyn
for agreeing the last update contained high quality Journey puns. They really
were!
We kick off with Lavo returning after giving Aysha an early
vacation in Fiji. Sol’s glad he’s still
here, Kishan feels blindsided by Teeny who’s suffering a crisis of conscience. (1 point for “Mention ‘in this game’”
[Teeny] to Marissa!). Rome sees himself in the majority alliance with
Genevieve and Kishan and is confident that Sol will go home at their next
tribal.
The following day, the tribe goes idol hunting and Rome thinks he’s the best idol hunter. Rome won't let Sol alone even for a second and tells him it’s not smart for him to find an idol right now because he’s on the bottom – that privilege is reserved for people at the top.
Kishan pushes Rome against Sol because he’s here for the
chaos. Me too, Kishan! Teeny
thinks he’s playing too hard, and he is. He’s Genevieve’s tightest ally but she
sees him as complicated, because continuing to stand up for him will eventually
blow back on her.
At Gata, Sam is playing a freestyle game along with Sierra
safely in the middle of the tribe with Andy on one side, Rachel and Anika on
the other. Then, like magic, the girls
form an all-girls alliance called The Breadwinners (note to Big Brother players:
Naming an alliance/being part of one is not scored in Survivor. I’ll add it
next season.). I call this out because
it’s ALWAYS talked about and NEVER done. The question is how long it will last.
Anika sees the girls as the tribe powerhouses, while Rachel can’t picture how
her game could go better. Andy, however, is a mess but Sam is happy to mentor
him because it puts his vote in Andy’s pocket.
Sierra breaks Rule
#1: STFU and tells Andy about the Breadwinners, swearing Andy to secrecy.
Andy immediately tells Sam who is ticked at Sierra for not
telling him too. There’s a potential
split here as the girls want Andy gone, but Sam wants him around.
At Tuku, a worn-down Sue is comforted by Gabe who sees her
as the perfect ally (1 point for “Mention ‘in this game’” [Gabe] to Carol!). Sue thinks they are
underestimating her and goes idol hunting, and quickly finds a beware
advantage! (2 points for “Find beware
advantage”, 2 points for “Open beware advantage” [Sue] to Dalphyne!). It instructs her to cut a rope near their
well. When she does, a clay pot
containing blood-red liquid and her idol fall to the ground, splattering all
over the place (2 points for “Complete stage 1 of Beware advantage”, 5
points for “Find hidden immunity idol” [Sue] to Dalphyne!). There’s a
problem, however. The area looks like a murder scene and Sue hastily covers up
the evidence. She forgets her own face
and hair, however, so when Tiyana and Caroline come by, they ask her why she
has blood in her hair (5 points for “Say the title of the episode” [Tiyana]
to Jay!). She makes up vague excuses but they don’t buy it.
We head to the immunity and reward challenge where the three tribes will play for 3 live chickens, 6 eggs or a date at Tribal Council with Jeff. They’re tied through the first two stages. At the puzzle, tulu and Gata work together to make progress. For Lavo, Rome plops down in front of the puzzle and Genevieve hands him one piece at a time. “That’s not the right piece”, Sol says over and over from the background. They’re getting nowhere as Jeff calls out Rome’s lackadaisical play (3 points for “Jeff says something negative about you in a challenge” [Rome] to Kristyn!). 5 bonus points if you send me the phrase roman statue. Tell no one else. Offer good until the next update is posted.
Gato and Tuku blow Rome out of
the water, finishing their puzzles before Rome has even a single piece. It’s the worst puzzle performance in Survivor
history, and it’s going to send Lavo to Tribal Council. (12 points for
“Win tribe immunity and reward” [Anika]/[Sierra], [Sue]/[Rachel],
[Caroline]/[Sam], [Andy]/[Rachel] to me, Dalphyne, Ricky and Jay!), (6 points
each for “Win tribe immunity and reward” [Gabe], [Kyle] to Carol and Jen!). Winning
tribe Gata chooses Andy, Teeny and Caroline to go on the Journey (3 points
each for “Go on a journey” [Andy], [Teeny], [Caroline] to Jay, Marissa and
Ricky!)
At the journey, Teeny, Andy and Caroline have to choose
someone to lose their vote at the next tribal council to gain an advantage,
else all three will lose their votes.
With time running out, Teeny volunteers to lose her vote. They gain an alliance idol which can only be
played after the merge, and only on the same person, which all remaining pieces
must agree upon. Does this make them allies?
Or does it give them people to target?
I’m betting the latter.
Back at Lavo, Rome is demoralized but that doesn’t stop him
from absolutely bullying Sol, saying he’s going to use his steal a vote on him
if Sol doesn’t give him his shot in the dark.
Otherwise, he says, he’s going to steal Genevieve’s vote. I’ve seen
aggressive gameplay before, but this is a whole new level. Sol can’t believe he’s hearing these threats
(ultimatums) and turns down the “offer”, realizing Rome has no intention of
stealing Genevieve’s vote. (1 point for “Mention ‘in this game’” [Sol] to
Carol!). Kishan is getting tired of “Lavo is Rome” and pitches Genevieve on
voting for Rome, breaking Rule
#4: Know Your Audience. That’s her
#1 ally, guy.
When they return, they all tell their tribes the truth with
Teeny restricting it to Kishan and Genevieve. Teeny can’t vote, and Rome plans
to steal someone’s vote, meaning only 3 people will cast votes. When Genevieve says she’s a “Type A Bossy
woman”, it becomes apparent she’s not going to follow Kishan’s plan as Rome is
an asset for her (1 point for “Mention ‘in this game’” [Genevieve] to
Kristyn!). When she lets him know
about it, Rome immediately switches the target to Kishan (1 point for
“Mention ‘in this game’” [Rome] to Kristyn!).
At Tribal Council, Jeff calls out how Rome never moved. He then asks Sol what he’d have seen if he were at Lavo today. “Threats and bullying”, says Sol. “Ultimatums”, says Rome. “A distinction without a difference”, says me. It’s a good threat but the way he went about it was at the level of a cheesy 80s movie villain. Both Kishan and Geneveive see the chaos as fun, as long as you’re not in it. Before the vote, Rome plays his steal-a-vote advantage and takes Kishan’s vote (2 points for “Play a hidden immunity idol or secret advantage” [Rome] to Kristyn!). Leaving the doctor with a shocked Pikachu face (Google it)
Genevieve’s cold-blooded smile hints at
the snake beneath as Kishan is voted out, 4-0 (4 points for “Received vote
against” [Kishan] to Marissa!), (-2 points for “The tribe has spoken” against
Marissa!)
So what does this mean for our scores? Kristyn remains in the lead thanks to Rome’s playing advantages. Jay rides Andy’s journey and Tiyana’s naming the episode to an incredible leap into 2nd place, while Ricky does a similar jump into 3rd thanks to Caroline and Sam. Dalphyne also takes a huge leap from 7th to 4th thanks to Sue’s beware advantage/idol. That drops me from 2nd to 5th. Marissa gained a few more points than Carol this week, moving her to 6th and leaving Carol and Jen in 7th and 8th.
- Kristyn 69
- Jay 67
- Ricky 59
- Dalphyne 56
- Scott 54
- Marissa 53
- Carol 47
- Jen 31
