Before we get started, a reminder of who has whom:
Second, 10 bonus
points to Carol for knowing Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and sending me
the word Squirrel. 5 points to Angela
and Lia for knowing Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. It’s a perfect movie,
seriously. Watch it!
On to the update!
Player moves:
Scott: TK voted out, Sierra added as lifeline.
We return to Tuku (Blue), aka loserville, following TK’s
flame snuffing moment. Gabe played his
idol because he saw everyone last season go home with idols in their pockets
and said “nuh-uh, not gonna be me!” (5 points for “Bring up previous season’s
players” to Carol!). Kyle has some damage control to do with Sue, having voted
for her. That’s going to take a lot of work – she takes personal affront like she’s
a Real Housewife of Fiji.
Now that his #1 is gone, Kyle enlists Gabe who’s more than
happy to have a loyal vote in his pocket. He sees Sue and Caroline as a pair
and thinks the four of them should target Tiyana. Kyle follows Rule
#7: Always Say Yes but has no interest in turning on her. Instead, he tries
to bring in Sue and Caroline but Sue hasn’t forgiven and hasn’t forgotten. He sees Sue’s irritation with him – but will
he translate that into “Danger, Danger!” when it comes time to vote?
At Gata (Yellow), none of them can sleep on bamboo. I don’t
get why – bamboo sheets are really expensive 😉. Anyway, their decision to rebuild the camp
rather than fish leaves Sam and Anika at each other’s throats (1 point for “Mention
‘in this game’” [Sam] to Brian!), which is great for Andy who’s at the tribal
bottom. In a down moment, Sam humblebrags (google it) about the things he’s
never eaten. Andy sees Rachel and Anika
as a duo and tries to build a trio with Sam and Sierra. She’s worried he’ll do something crazy like
play his shot in the dark, so he gives it to her “to hold” to build trust. Since they all know they each have one, it
doesn’t break Rule
#1: STFU and she tells us that move did build trust with her. First time for everything!
At Lavo (Red), Rome wants to fish all the time which is fine
with Aysha because she can’t stand listening to him. And they have no choice
but to listen because he….won’t…..stop….talking. And everything he has to say is about how
great he is.
Teeny sees him as a perfect shield, but Genevieve and Aysha resent the portions of the fish he shares with them as he takes half for himself and lets everyone else split the other half. His reaction is…predictable.
If I were titling a book after his gameplay style it’d be:
I’d say that’s enough about Rome but I suspect we’ll be subjected
to his narcissism for at least a few more weeks..
Boats arrive at camp and it’s time for Journeys! As they
board their boats, Kyle won’t stop believing, Anika embraces it with open arms,
and Rome insists on being good to himself despite Aysha’s wish that he not gain
any more power (1 point for “Mention ‘in this game’”[Aysha] to Brian!), (3 points each for “Go on a journey”[Kyle],
[Anika], [Rome] to Lia, Roberta and Angela!). 5 bonus points if you send me
the phrase high quality journey puns.
Tell no one else. Offer good until the next update is posted.
At the journey, Rome says Sol and Aysha are running things and
that he’s on the outs. Solid gameplay. Anika confirms Sam and Sierra are not
a showmance. When they go their separate ways (ok..ok…I’ll stop) they find
a package with three notes in it. Two
notes are “lose a vote”. One is “Steal a
vote”. They have to pick once, but if they lose they
have the option to pick again chancing a 2nd lost vote. Kyle loses
his vote and doesn’t chance it which I think is dumb, given how Sue (and
Caroline, by proxy) are certainly targeting him. Anika also loses her vote and doesn’t risk it
further, but she’s in good shape on her tribe.
And because luck favors fools, Rome nabs a Steal-A-Vote advantage (1
point each for “Risk your vote and fail” [Kyle], [Anika] to Lia and Roberta!),
(3 points for “Risk your vote and succeed” [Rome] to Angela!)
Upon their return, Sam doesn’t believe anything Anika which
is good because she lies about it, telling Rachel and Sierra the truth
privately. Meanwhile Sierra and Sam are concerned that the other tribes see
them as a pair. (1 point for “Mention
‘in this game’” [Sierra] to Lia!). Kyle tells the boring truth.
Rome, of course, lies that he lost his vote but breaks Rule #1: STFU and tells Teeny the truth, which leaves her forced to play with him. His narcissism and name remind me of another Roman…
At the immunity and reward challenge, a solo person from each tribe has to climb a tower, jump into the water, climb a grate, jump into water again to get a key, and then cross a balance beam. When done, the tribes continue in pairs until they’re done. Once they have the keys, it’s puzzle time. Lavo has an extra person so Genevieve volunteers to sit out (2 points for “Volunteer to sit out a challenge” [Genevieve] to Carol!).
Sol wants to be the solo person but Rome insists on it being
him. Eventually Sol gives in. I wish Rome had someone else like Rome on his
tribe so he had to deal with himself.
Kyle and Andy volunteer for Tuku and Gata while Genevieve unsuccessfully
searches the sit-out bench for a hidden immunity idol. Andy struggles mightily at the balance beam (3
points for “Jeff says something negative about you”[Andy] to Jay!) but once
he finishes it, Gata quickly catches Lavo who lose time to Teeny’s struggles on
the balance beam. At the puzzle, Gata
and Tuku have an insurmountable lead and take home the wins (12 points for “Win
tribe immunity and reward” [Anika]/[Andy],[Kyle]/[Sierra] to Roberta and Lia!),
(6 points each for “Win tribe immunity and reward” [Sue], [Rachel], [Gabe], [Caroline],
[Sam] to Sheila, Dylan, Carol, Iyasah and Brian!)
Back at loser camp, Kishan asks “If anyone is having a Q
moment and wants to go home” (5 points for “Bring up previous seasons players”
to Sheila!). Teeny sees Kishan as her #1, and they’re forced into working
with Rome and Genevieve so Sol or Aysha are the votes. This isn’t what she prefers, however. She’d rather keep Aysha over Sol (1 point
for “Mention ‘in this game’ [Teeny] to Angela!). Of course, Rome wants
Aysha out and to make Sol play his shot in the dark but after 5 minutes
with Teeny, she’s swung him to going after Sol instead.
Don’t worry, he tells the others. He’ll keep Sol calm by
selling that it’s 99% going to be Aysha (1 point for “Mention ‘in this game’
[Rome] to Angela!) so smooth is he, that he believes if Boston Rob is the
godfather, that he is the godson. I’m begging you, Lavo. Please vote this guy
out! (5 points for “Bring up previous seasons players” to Angela!).
Sol, being a normal, rational person, sees right through
Rome’s bullshit and asks him point blank if he’s just trying to make Sol feel
comfortable. Rome’s blank stare tells
Sol everything he needs to know.
Kishan wants to bring Aysha into the decision to vote Sol, which
is classic overthinking. She’s definitely going to tell him but Aysha’s unwillingness
to work with Kishan and Teeny leave them wondering if she should go instead.
At tribal, Rome’s idol is only good for this tribal but will
he play it for himself or Genevieve? Anyone
who’s been around him for more than five minutes shouldn’t believe he’d play
ANYTHING for ANYONE other than himself.
Things move along calmly until Jeff asks Kishan if he felt
that someone was “on the outside” today leading the doctor to share his loyalty
to the core four. Who’s that, exactly?
Jeff wants to know. He’s not sharing but
it’s out there now.
At the vote, Rome plays his idol for himself, and receives a
vote anyway. As do Sol, and Genevieve but in the end Aysha’s unwillingness to
work with Kishan and Teeny leads her out the door (2 points for “Play hidden
immunity idol on yourself” [Rome] to Angela!), (1 point each for “Received vote
against” [Sol], [Genevieve] to Iyasah and Carol!), (3 points for “Received vote
against” [Aysha] to Brian!), (-2 points for “The Tribe Has Spoken” against
Brian!).
She’s salty on her way out, but not as salty as I’ll be if
Rome doesn’t soon follow her.
So what does this mean for our scores? Rome’s, the lifeline everyone passed on drafting twice, leads Angela to first place! Roberta moves into 2nd and Lia into 4th, the beneficiaries of having both players on winning tribes. Aysha being voted out leaves Brian in 3rd but he’s down to only having Sam left. Sheila remains in 5th, Carol drops to 6th with a 1-point lead over 7th place Dylan. 8th place Iyasah wonders..who do I have to know to get some points here? Well, good news Iyasha – there’s 5 free ones sitting somewhere in this post!
- Angela 53
- Roberta 42
- Brian 39
- Lia 32
- Sheila 30
- Carol 24
- Dylan 23
- Iyasah 17
