Lifelines: Tiyana, Rachel, Caroline, Sam
Second, 10 bonus points to…no one! The person holding the
sword in last week’s post was Scott Pilgrim!
We pick up following Rome’s unceremonious ouster and Teeny
feels like the weight of the world is off her shoulders. (1 point for “Mention
‘in this game’” [Teeny] to Marissa!). Sol, having voted for Andy, tries to repair their
relationship. He lies, saying he believed Rome had an idol and was worried for
himself, so he wrote Andy.
Remarkably astute, Andy asks “So you were very confident he
had an idol, and you wrote my name, meaning you were confident you were sending
me home?”
Sol is shocked but recovers quickly, telling Andy that Gata –
specifically Sam - sold him out. Andy recounts
the different things Sam and Sierra have done, realizing he’s their third wheel (1 point for “Mention ‘in this game’” [Andy] to Jay!). Heartbroken, but awake, he
asks Sol if he’d be down to get rid of Gata, which sounds great to Sol.
Andy also takes some time with Genevieve, saying he has a
vision of how his game can go with her. She agrees, for now. Genevieve didn’t
particularly care for that kind of talk from Kishan. She’s a lawyer and a snake who’s willing to
strike. He needs to watch his back with
her around.
Rachel recognizes that the women outnumber the men and tries
to build an all-women alliance. I’ve joked before about how it’s basically a
myth that gets told every year but has only worked a couple of times and Teeny
says the same thing. She, Tiyana and the others are all for it…for now. I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for it to materialize.
At the immunity and
reward challenge, the 12 Survivors are split into two teams of six. It’s “Balance the thing while standing on an
ever-smaller beam” competition. Last
person standing wins immunity and reward for their whole team. Last person standing on the losing side wins
individual immunity. The winning team will not participate in Tribal at all.
The teams are:
Yellow: Genevieve, Sierra, Teeny, Sol, Andy and Sam
Blue: Sue, Caroline, Rachel, Tiyana, Gabe and Kyle. (That’s all of Tuku + Rachel, if you’re scoring
at home [or even if you’re alone, h/t Steve Somers].
Andy drops so fast I wonder if he’s throwing it (3 points
for “First out in a challenge” [Andy] to Jay!). Rachel, Gabe and Sierra follow
soon after. They get down to 3 on each
side, and Genevieve looks tremendously strong.
Teeny is struggling but hangs on like a champ. When Kyle finally drops, it’s only the two Yellow
women left standing! Yellow wins! (6
points for “Win tribal immunity” and “Win tribal reward” [Genevieve],
[Sierra], [Teeny], [Sol], [Andy] and [Sam] to Kristyn, Ricky, Marissa, Carol, and Jay!). (8 points for “Win individual immunity” [Kyle]
to me!). The losers head back to the
old Lavo camp, while winners to the merge camp for their feast!
At the winner camp, Genevieve surprised herself by helping win
and thinks her first Rome-less day is the best day she’s had yet. Sam sees
Rachel in serious trouble and pitches this six to go after Tuku. Teeny suggests there might be an idol or
advantage, since one was played at last tribal.
It’s sitting right next to Sol, but he doesn’t see it.
Finished gorging, they’re in their post-meal comas and we
see Sol sleeping RIGHT NEXT TO THE ADVANTAGE.
All I’m picturing is him stressing out while watching this episode with
friends and family.
Andy does some searching but doesn’t find it. His new ally
Genevieve hopes he finds it because he’s searching so sloppily that it could
damage his game.
Finally, Sol wakes up and looks in the right direction. He stealthily pockets the advantage, and all
the stress leaves his home. (7 points for “Obtain a secret advantage” [Sol] to Carol!). Beautiful! A little later, he walks away
and sees that his advantage is really for someone else. If he chooses, he can gift someone at tonight’s
tribal with either Safety Without Power, or a Vote Nullifier. He’s definitely going to use it, but which
choice will he make? And to whom?
At loser camp, Rachel sees this as a worst-case scenario, and
I agree. She’s toast. Gabe sees her personality as a huge threat (1
point for “Mention ‘in this game’” [Gabe] to Jen!).
But then…plinko starts.
If you’re not familiar with the Price is Right, Plinko is a
game where you drop a ball from the top of a wood board with several “landing
spots” at the bottom, each with varying prizes. You can aim for the biggest prize,
but the board has nails all over it. The
ball bounces randomly all over the board, so where you aim has little bearing
on where the ball ends up.
Survivor is very much Plinko.
There are 5 Tuku members. There’s one Rachel. They vote her
off, easy peasy right? Right?
Well, Tiyana sees that if they do so and walk back to the
merge camp 5 strong, they will be outnumbered 6-5 by the remaining players, and
therefore targeted. So maybe Rachel…the easy peasy vote…isn’t quite so
dead. Tiyana also wants Gabe out and sees
this as a perfect opportunity. Rachel is
all in favor of “Anyone but me”.
Tiyana tries to convince Caroline, but the latter thinks
Rachel is seriously dangerous (1 point for “Mention ‘in this game’” [Caroline] to no
one!). She’s also a believer in the women's-alliance myth, and sees Rachel as
the glue, meaning Caroline is not the glue. As Caroline wants to be the glue, so Rachel
has to go.
Finally, Gabe sees the same problem Tiyana did and pitches
Caroline to Rachel. She nods but sees his pitch as hopeful B.S. Tiyana is done
waiting. She wants to go to tribal council, which is one of the few times anyone’s
said that.
We don’t know to whom, or if, Sol gave his advantage as Rachel
and the Tuku’s (new band name, I called it) solemnly enter tribal. 5 bonus
points each if you send me which show, and which character called new band
names all the time. Offer good until next update. Tell no one else and no internet
sleuthing! You know it or you don’t!
They spend some time talking about how numbers can work for
you, or against you and Rachel is surprised it’s not surely her. Tiyana believes everyone might be thinking
how they can use Rachel’s vote, but she just wants to live through today to
make the jury.
Rachel sees some days on Survivor as being able to plan
three steps ahead, and others as “Anyone but me”. Today’s the latter. This is easily her
hardest day. Tiyana, and the rest, all
want to make big moves and impact the game, thinking it’s better to swing for
the fences and miss because she’d be able to live with herself afterword. Caroline
agrees, as long as the home run swing is a smart one. Finally, Gabe sees that Rachel may have sown
enough chaos to get Tuku to turn on each
other.
Before the vote comes, we find out what Sol did.
Rachel stops tribal and announces that she’s
got a secret advantage – Safety without power.
She picks up her stuff and her torch and walks out like a champion. Tuku are left aghast.
They are in shock as the side conversations start, and chaos starts again.
At the vote, Gabe’s machinations outdo Tiyana’s. She’s voted
out 4-1, and is so stunned that she could give Anika a run for her money. In the end, she won’t make the jury. (4
points for “Received vote against” [Tiyana] to no one!), (-2 points for “The
tribe has spoken” [Tiyana] to no one!), (1 point for “Received vote against”
[Gabe] to Jen!)
No smiles on the way back to camp tonight, as chaos and randomness reign.
As a side note, Gabe, Genevieve, Caroline, and Andy are some
seriously tricky gameplayers. It’s going to be fun watching them.
So what does this mean for our scores? Thanks to Andy dropping first at the challenge,
Jay pulls into a tie for the lead with Kristyn! Ricky, Dalphyne and Marissa
keep pace in 3rd to 5th while Carol cruises past me into
6th thanks to Sol’s advantage, leaving Jen all alone in the cellar.
- Jay 121
- Kristyn 121
- Ricky 111
- Dalphyne 105
- Marissa 96
- Carol 87
- Scott 79
- Jen 63
