Survivor 48 - Brooklyn South Update #5

Before we get started, a reminder of who has whom:

Second, 5 bonus points to Jo for getting half the bonus points right. The secret identity in question was King T’Challa, and he was talking to Bruce Banner in a funny scene from Avengers: Infinity War.

On to the update!

We pick back up at Civa where Sai is pissed at Cedrek for lying about his vote.  By the time Cedrek found out about Bianca’s lost vote, it was too late to tell Sai but she’s having none of it.  I don’t understand why he didn’t just say it at Tribal Council, but Cedrek’s gonna Cedrek. Normally, she’d also be pissed at Mitch who voted for Sai, but Sai voted for Chrissy and that’d be hypocritical.  (1 point for “Mention ‘in this game’” [Mitch] to Bobby!)

A boat arrives. It’s time to DROP YOUR BUFFS!

The final merge is happening, which means the new teams will take effect next episode!

Kyle feels like Shauhin and Joe are legitimate allies while Chrissy thinks Cedrek needs to let go of Sai.  Finally, Star is so excited for the merge she jumps out of her pants

Pants on the ground, pants on the ground...

Everyone arrives at Lagi’s beach and for The Official Last Time They Will Like Each Other dance.  Mary wants to start fresh and is pensive about playing with Sai again. Star finds a note – Tomorrow, they’ll compete for immunity but today they can find an advantage. Go!

Charity follows Sai and sees the advantage, but Sai beats her to it!  (7 points for “Find a secret advantage” [Sai] to Scott!).  She’s willing to do anything if it keeps her safe.

How about being a little less creepy?

David and Joe bond over being milk-drinking muscle-bros and Eva and Shauhin think they’re crazy and I agree. Joe is proud of the moment with Eva, and she wants him to team with him, Kyle and David to form a “No Manipulators” kind of alliance.  Kyle considers adding Shauhin but wisely doesn’t really trust him.  (1 point for “Mention ‘in this game’” [Kyle] to Tom!). Kamila is his true #1 but wants to make sure no one sees them as a duo.

Charity wants to stay Civa strong, and Mitch is on board to go after Sai. She also tells Mitch about Eva’s idol, that Eva is also a good target and even goes so far as to suggest Star tell Eva she wants her idol back.  Star sees Charity as going rogue, while Eva sees her as fake. They’re both right.

At the reward challenge, they’re divided into teams of six for the first half of the challenge.  The winning first half group earns the merge feast, and the right to compete for individual immunity, along with Sai whose secret advantage is to skip the first stage! Whoever wins is guaranteed to make the merge.

Promoted directly to the 2nd half, Sai squeals in excitement and all I can think of is “You should win with more tact”.  She comes across as petty, self-centered, and immature.

  • The Orange team: Charity, Eva, Shauhin, Cedrek, Mitch and Joe
  • The Purple team: Mary, Chrissy, Kamila, David, Kyle, Star

They finish the first stage even

They finish the second stage even

Purple takes the lead in the third stage, but Orange comes back to take the lead.

Finally on the puzzle, David and Kamila have a huge lead but they get bogged down as Orange catches up.  In the end, Purple’s lead was too much to overcome, and they take home Reward!

(3 points each for “Win tribal reward” [Mary, Chrissy, Kamila, David, Kyle, Star] to Will, George, Tom, and three nobodies!)

At the individual immunity stage, they balance a ball on a pole and regularly add sections of pole to make it higher.  They’re two sections in when Chrissy drops (3 points for “First out in an individual challenge” [Chrissy] to nobody!).  After 4 sections, Kamila, Mary and Sai drop. When they hit SEVEN sections, David and Star finally drop meaning (8 points for “Win individual immunity” [Kyle] to Tom!).

At the reward, WHY DON’T THEY GO WASH THEIR HANDS BEFORE THEY EAT OMG THAT IS SO GROSS.  Anyway, they all openly share thoughts. Star sees Charity as a schemer and doesn’t care who hears her say it.  Chrissy thinks Eva should be a target, but Charity is an easier target.

At loser camp, Cedrek feels on the outs for causing the loss yet again, while everyone else talks about how awful Tribal Council truly is.  Joe thinks it should always be uncomfortable, but Charity doesn’t really believe it is.

If you say so

After the winners return, Sai won’t shut the fuck up about what they ate.

Do you want to catch votes? Because this is how you catch votes.

Meanwhile, Star tries to cheer Cedrek up and we see how good a human she is.  Where has she been hiding all this time?  (5 points for “Say the title of the episode” [Star] to nobody!).  It feels like he’s moving more toward Star than Sai and that’s good for him.

Camp Chatter™ has Charity and Eva as the targets, but Eva’s idol seems to worry people off her.  Joe thinks Charity and Sai both need to go. The problem is, only one will.  Mary sees her as a turtle, but Sai is a snake. Shauhin thinks voting for Charity weakens Civa but he doesn’t trust Eva either.  David sees “Civa strong” as “not trusting Mitch or Charity but trusting Sai less”.

5 points if you can tell me the name of the actor who voiced this iconic villain.
Message me directly.
No Google, ChatGPT or other internet sleuthing!
You know it or you don’t.

At tribal council, they’re much cleaner.  Is it weird that I think they should all be muddy at tribal but clean when they finally get to eat?

Shauhin likens merge camp to a huge house party after being at small dinner parties. You’re not sure who has snuck away together, while Mary sees them as dogs in a dog park.  Some are fighting to be the big dog, others over a ball and still others sitting in the corner.

Eva’s biggest concern with 13 people is that she won’t know if they’re lying.  I don’t know how truthy that is, but overplaying that inability is a pretty good way to get people off-guard.  (1 point for “Mention ‘in this game’” [Eva] to Kyle!). Both she and Joe hope the connections they’ve made are real enough to carry through the game.

Shauhin is surprised that he’s told these people things he hasn’t told his friends and family.  I imagine that went over well at his watch party.   While Chrissy thinks the connections are totally real, Eva’s not buying it

Let's call this one “Puh-leeze!”

Sai agrees this is a family but it’s the most dysfunctional, cliquey family ever.  Eva agrees with Sai.  Kyle thinks trust is “whether you can call on that person in a bind.”   At the vote, Mitch is chosen first (3 points for “Chosen to vote first” [Mitch] to Bobby!).

When the votes are read, Cedrek gets 1 (from Sai!), and while Sai’s personality earns her 5 votes, Charity’s scheming snake style earns her 7 and she’s voted out.

(1 point for “Received vote against” [Cedrek] to nobody!),

(5 points for “Received vote against” [Sai] to Scott!)

(7 points for “Received vote against” [Charity] to nobody!)

(-1 point for “The tribe has spoken” [Charity] against nobody!)

Wrong season to be a scheming snake

Everyone else gets 1 point for surviving the week on an active tribe (I don’t always say this, but you always get it if your player doesn’t get voted out.)

Ok, so what does that mean for our scores?  Our-game Kyle and Tom continue their battle for supremacy, as Tom pulls back to a dead even tie for the lead thanks to in-game Kyle’s Immunity win. I move into 3rd thanks to Sai’s finding an advantage, and catching all those votes at tribal, dropping Will to 4th.  Jo moves into 5th thanks to Marvel knowledge, but Stephanie won’t be happy about it – she drops to 6th. Bobby and George remain in 7th and 8th but don’t lose heart! I’ve seen people come back from the bottom to win!

The Final New Teams Of The Season ™ take effect this week. Good luck all!
