Welcome to the first scoring update of the Big Brother 27
season! I try to post these weekly,
generally on Saturdays as my schedule permits.
For those new to these games, I recap the shows as they lead
to scoring events. I include bonus points in every post,
sometimes twice if I’m feeling generous.
Bonus points tend to be pop culture references that have something to do
with whatever I’m writing about at that moment.
You do not have to try for them, but I encourage it.
The bonus point rule is no cheating. We work on the honor system here, and we’re
not playing for money! That means no
Google, Yahoo, ChatGPT, Grok or any other internet assistance. You either know the answers, or you don’t!
Administration done.
Let’s go!
Our game begins following the Season Premiere which saw Zach
and Jimmy win powers, Vince win HOH, Julie get kidnapped, and the Mastermind
announce one of the Houseguests was his accomplice!
They will each vote on who they think the accomplice
is. If they figure it out, that person
is out of the house and there will be 16 players. If not, that person is in the house and there
will be 17. I offered 10 bonus points to
anyone who had the accomplice as their person.
Shockingly, no one trusts anyone. Any possible variance is a reason to
suspect. Keanu sat on the couch wrong!
Zae’s face went red! Rylie had to pee!
My personal take is: They are
#Doomed. This bunch of dopes has no shot
at guessing correctly. Finally, Lauren
suggested having 9 women and 8 men means the accomplice is likely a woman. I loved that logic.
The vote comes back 11 for Rylie, 5 for Zae but Rylie is not
the accomplice. Sorry, Viviana, no bonus
points for you. We get to see time
rewind and the accomplished accomplice is Amy!
(10 bonus points for “Have the Accomplice” to Scott and Carol!). She’s officially the 17th player!
They have the champagne toast introduction and the
showmances are already starting, mostly thanks to Amy and Rachel playing yenta (google
it, goyim). Mickey is into Keanu saying
he’s a dungeon master, until he clarifies he means Dungeons & Dragons.
Rylie wants no showmances, but the girls are too pretty.
A letter arrives from Hotel Mystere management informing
Rachel that due to her late arrival, her room is not ready and she’s (along
with 3 others) are have-nots for the week, but they’ll also be safe! It’s a
Safety Chain! Jimmy isn’t happy
about Rachel being safe. “This is not the first or last time Rachel will beef
with a gay man”, says the Quotable Jay. Rachel chooses Will. Will sees a lot of common ground with Zach
and chooses him (1 point for “Mention ‘in this game’ [Will] to no one!). Zach
chooses Ava’s puppy dog eyes over Lauren’s beauty and makes her a safe
have-not.
Following the ceremony, Jimmy goes after Rachel hard while
Morgan sees her as helpful (3 points for “Mention Rachel is ‘iconic’ ” [Jimmy,
Morgan] to Scott, Carol and Dalphyne!). Talking with Will, Rachel asks who
his favorite players are. He starts with
Dr. Will and Dan (5 points for “Mention a previous season’s player” [Will]
to no one!), belatedly adding “and you, of course”. Rachel doesn’t like being 3rd
fiddle, guy. But he does redeem himself
by saying her showmance with Brendan is iconic. (3 points for “Mention
Rachel’s showmance is ‘iconic’”) [Will] to no one) and (5 points for
“Mention a previous season’s player” [Brendan] by [Rachel] to Jay and Brian!)
Zach gets a note in the DR, he wins $10,000 for saving
Julie! (7 points for “Win a cash bonus” [Zach] to Roberta and Tessa!). He
can also trade the money to the HOH in exchange for safety any time before
Jury!
Overactive Jimmy feels like he has HOH Vince’s ear, and
brings Morgan and Mickey into his plotting. (3 points for “Name an alliance”
[Jimmy] [Triple Threat] to no one!), (3 points each for “Be part of an
officially named alliance” [Jimmy, Mickey, Morgan] to Scott, Carol and
Dalphyne!).
Meanwhile, Rachel and Amy also lock in the Mom Squad 2.0
Alliance. (3 points for “Name an alliance” [Rachel] [Mom Squad 2.0] to Jay
and Brian!), (3 points each for “Be part of an officially named alliance” [Rachel,
Amy] to Jay, Brian, Scott and Carol!).
Then….the controversy begins. Ashley takes a shower in HOH
Vince’s room before even he does. And she takes her time. 30 minutes. 60.
90. 120!
TWO FULL HOURS LATER she comes out and the house is gobsmacked (google
it, youngsters). People look for reasons to target other people. She just gave
them one. We’ll get back to that in a
minute.
First, Jimmy-who-won’t-shut-up needs to build trust with
Vince (1 point for “Mention ‘in this game’ [Jimmy] to no one!). He also
wants to target the strong guys before their alliance solidifies. While Jimmy
has his ear, Kelley is Vince’s #1 ally as they make a Final 2 deal (3 points
for “Shown on camera making a Final 2 deal” [Vince, Kelley] to Jay, Dalphyne,
Viviana Marissa and Ricky!) and thinking it’ll cement the idea they aren’t
working together, she volunteers to go up as a pawn (3 points for “Volunteer
to go up as a pawn” [Kelley] to Viviana, Marissa and Ricky!).
Meanwhile, #Showergate has exploded.
Keanu, Rylie, Zach and a handful of others talk to Vince
about Ashley, and she interrupts him so many times I wonder if she’s getting
paid to do it. When she finally talks
with Vince, she spirals with paranoia and Vince sees he can’t trust her to keep
it together under pressure. Not to be outdone, Amy can’t believe a shower might
get Ashley nominated, and bursts into tears (1 point for “Shown on camera
crying” [Amy] to Carol and Scott!). Seeing
how tight they are, Vince considers nominating both since they’ll be mad at him
anyway.
At the nomination ceremony, it is Amy, Ashley and Zae who
find their faces on the wall (3 points for “Nominated for Eviction” [Amy,
Ashley, Zae] to Carol, Scott, Brian, Teresa and Joe!).
Wednesday’s episode kicks off with the champagne toast in
the opening vignette (2 points for “Speak in the opening vignette”
[Everyone] to everyone!)
Vince has nominated Amy, Ashley and Zae and doesn’t want
more early blood on his hands (1 point for “Say ‘I need to win the veto’
[Vince] to Jay and Dalphyne!). The pressure of going home first drives Amy
to tears (1 point for “Shown on camera crying” [Amy] to Carol and Scott!) and
does the same to Ashley (1 point for “Shown on camera crying” [Ashley] to Brian!)
who also absolutely needs to win the
veto (1 point for “Say ‘I need to win the veto’ [Ashley] to Brian!) because
she doesn’t know why she was nominated and needs to get back at Vince. Both Amy and Ashley call Vince names in the
DR, because they are too chicken to say it to his face.
Rachel tries to calm Mom Squad 2.0 alliance member Amy saying she’s used to either being in power or being on the block and tells us she’ll definitely use the veto if she gets to play. Meanwhile, Lauren and Zach flirt with each other, as do Rylie and Katherine, all while vehemently telling us none are interested in a showmances, as they are bad for their games.
On the other side, you have the Mom Squad 2.0 actively promoting the showmances because they distract from the game. Solid gameplay by Rachel and Amy!
Vince and Zae talk about Ashley and Amy’s ridiculous
overreactions to being put up, while Zae uses his reaction as a way to turn
Vince into an ally. That’s also smart
gameplay.
Keanu and Rachel have a heart-to-heart about motivations, as
Keanu shares that his dad has cancer and wants to make him proud.
(1 point for “Shown on camera crying” [Keanu] to Ricky
and Marissa!). The bonding effects Rachel, as she wants to keep him around (1
point for “Mention ‘in this game’” [Rachel] to Jay and Brian!). Meanwhile, Jimmy has moved to “GET RACHEL
OUT!” to “How can I use her to my benefit?”, as she makes the case to him that
she can’t win so she’s the perfect Final 2 partner. Whether it’s true or not,
it’s a great tactic.
Jimmy and Zach have hit it off, and begin forming their
alliance with Morgan, Vince, Rachel and Rylie.
At midnight in the Boxing room, the Heavy Hitters are formed.
(3 points for “Name an alliance” [Morgan] [Heavy Hitters]
to Carol, Scott, and Dalphyne!)
(3 points for “Be part of an officially named alliance”
[Jimmy, Zach, Morgan, Rylie, Rachel, Vince] [Heavy Hitters] to Tessa, Roberta,
Scott, Carol, Dalphyne, Vivana, Brian and Dalphyne!)
(6 points for “Be part of an officially named alliance”
[Vince, Rachel] to Jay!). Vince may
have Kelley as his #1, but he needs more numbers around him (1 point for
“Mention ‘in this game’” [Vince] to Jay and Dalphyne!).
Rachel joined the Heavy Hitters, following Rule
#7: Always Say Yes: If approached to join an Alliance, Final
Three, Final Two, say yes. Saying no is like saying "Please target
me!". Say yes, and then do whatever you want, but her allegiance is
to Amy and the Mom Squad 2.0.
Zach doesn’t want to play and definitely doesn’t want to win. He’s already safe this week. So naturally, he’s picked for veto (1 point for “Picked for veto via random draw” [Zach] to Tessa and Roberta!) and Rachel who wants to play and win veto to save Amy, is picked by houseguest choice (2 points for “Picked for veto via houseguest choice” [Rachel] to Jay and Dalphyne!). Ashley knows Zach won’t use the veto on her, but she does pitch the benefit of not winning it to him.
At the veto competition, they have to identify three suspects in three crime scenes by the unique footprint, tire and stench left behind. It’s Clue, Big Brother style.
They all guess wrong over and over, and Zach feels like it’s
trying to crack the Davinci Code. If he’s truly throwing it, he’s making it
look good. Zae and Ashley come down to
the wire but he’s got one still wrong meaning the main target, Ashley, wins her
way off the block! (4 points for “Win veto” [Ashley] to Brian!).
Vince is ticked. Having to name a 4th nominee is
his worst-case scenario. Kelley
reiterates her willingness to be a pawn. He doesn’t want to do it, but he feels
like he has to (1 point for “Shown on camera crying” [Vince] to Jay and
Dalphyne!)
But hold the phone. Jimmy hasn’t weighed in on Vince’s potential renomination yet. He wants Keanu as the target, hoping to break up the strong guys. Vince recognizes Jimmy’s ego and entertains the idea, but he’s good with Keanu and has no plan to nominate him. Jimmy sees Vince as his “Proxy HOH” who will “do whatever Jimmy says”.
Jimmy pitches Keanu to the girls, who all nod. And then to Zach who nods right along. He’s being WAY too pushy here, but there’s no way he sees it. After all, everyone agrees with him, right?
Rachel deftly
illustrates the problem with Jimmy’s approach: She immediately tells Keanu. Keanu may believe her, but he follows Rule
#2: Trust but verify: When a player is told information counter to that
players knowledge, trust the source but verify its truth with other players.
Keanu confirms with Vince that he’s not the HOH’s renom
target, and that it’s something Jimmy created.
He considers Jimmy as the potential renom target, and I hope to God he
goes through with it.
Jimmy and Keanu then have the best conversation of the short season, in which Jimmy calls backdooring someone weak and shady, while Keanu probes at who he’d suggest to Vince as the renom. Jimmy lies leading Keanu to tell him “It’s going to create a huge enemy of whoever it is”, and how he’d hate that kind of behavior. Jimmy is completely clueless, saying he feels good about the conversation (!)
Keanu, Kelley and Vince start talking about Jimmy as the
renom target, saying he’s lying to everyone.
Keanu is handling it well until he breaks Rule
#4: Know Your Audience: When sharing information, a player shall consider
the recipient with whom they share it, with whom the recipient is allied and
how the information can be used against the player.
He tells Ava, who can’t stand the fact that Keanu follows
her around like a puppy, about targeting Jimmy. Already irritated by Keanu, she
sees this as an opportunity to sow discord and she takes it.
Ava tells Jimmy what Keanu is saying and, despite it being
true, Jimmy acts as if he can’t comprehend that Keanu would do such a thing
saying “It’s crazy how fake people can be”.
This guy is a short fuse, and every good player will light him up and point him in the direction they want him to explode.
Vince, also happy to sow discord, tells Jimmy that Keanu
suggested him figuring them going after each other is good for his game.
At the veto meeting, Ashley uses the veto on herself (no
points for that, in case you were wondering) and Vince nominates Kelley in her
place (3 points for “Nominated for eviction” [Kelley] to Ricky, Marissa and
Viviana!).
Before the meeting adjourns, Jimmy throws a hissy fit at Keanu for calling him a snake, and that he’s gunning for the Dungeon Master.
Keanu doesn’t bite, however, mockingly responding “How long did it take you to come up with that?”. My impression of the rest of the house:
On Thursday, it’s Ava’s shocked “I guess the meeting’s adjourned”
that opens the show (2 points for “Speak in the opening vignette” [Ava] to
Demi!). Following the Veto meeting, Jimmy
storms off and goes outside while Keanu could care less.
Rachel…is definitely playing this game. We see her just before the Veto meeting coaching Jimmy into exploding on Keanu. She played the crap out of him here.
Keanu confronts Vince
about who suggested his name first. All
Vince has to do to keep this feud boiling is say “Jimmy did” but instead of
smoothly lying, Vince is defensive and deflecting. Ugh! When Keanu talks to Jimmy, they come to an
agreement that “The telephone game made it explode”. They hug it out, but Jimmy still has Keanu in
his sights.
Up in the HOH room, Zae wants to secure his future (1
point for “Mention ‘in this game’” [Zae] to Joe and Teresa!) and he does so
by securing an alliance.
(3 points for “Name an alliance” [Zae] [The Burger Boys]
to Joe and Teresa)
(3 points for “Be part of an officially named alliance”
[Will, Rylie, Zach, Zae, Vince] to Viviana, Tessa, Roberta, Joe, Teresa, Dalphyne
and Jay!)
Kelley seems to have rubbed people the wrong way on several
occasions, so it looks like she’s the new target and it makes her feel
radioactive (1 point for “Shown on camera crying” [Kelley] to Ricky, Marissa
and Viviana!)
Rachel, still playing like she means it, wants to keep Amy
safe and get Zae out. Morgan and Amy are
all for it, as is Mickey who sees Zae as a strategic threat. Zae goes on the
offensive when he sees Rachel campaigning against him, saying he’ll give safety
to anyone who votes to keep him and target anyone who votes to evict him.
His blunt hammer approach doesn’t work well with Rachel,
however who says, “I’d be careful coming for the Queen, you could get beheaded”. He sees that she’s trying to start beef with
him so she can stir the house against him.
She stalks off trying to sound tough, but it comes off as fake. He was
cool with how he handled being nominated. How will he handle this?
At the BB Blockbuster, 4 words slowly appear scrambled. Unscrambling them into the correct phrase leads
to a specific object. First to find it wins.
In short order, Kelley unscrambles “Steal crown with emeralds”
taking herself off the block (4 points for “Win special competition”
[Kelley] to Ricky, Marissa and Viviana!).
The live eviction follows quickly and all the campaigning
sounds like a split vote, mostly guys vs. girls. Amy’s speech is terrible. Zae’s speech is all
about Rachel, and not why they should keep him.
I always wonder whether the speeches matter at all.
In the end, Amy receives 5 votes while Zae takes the other 9
becoming the first person evicted.
(5 points for “Received vote against” [Amy] to Carol and
Scott!)
(9 points for “Received vote against” [Zae] to Joe and
Teresa!)
(-2 points for “Evicted” [Zae] against Joe and Teresa!)
(5 points for “Mention a previous season’s player”
[Rachel] [Brendan] to Jay and Brian!)
(1 point each for “Shown on camera crying” [Zach, Rylie]
to Tessa, Roberta and Viviana!).
In his post-game interview, Zae says “A lot of people can
say they won Big Brother. How many can say they came in 17th? Just me!”
Nice.
So, what does this mean for our scores?
Owning Rachel this week led Jay to a quick lead, as she led
all scorers. Carol and I are tied for 3rd, thanks in large part to guessing
Amy was the Accomplice. Brian is in 4th, thanks to Rachel and Ashley.
Dalphnye’s Vince and Morgan combination sets her in a 5th place tie
with Viviana, who had BB Blockbuster winner Kelley and Rylie. Teresa and Joe
tie for 7th, while Ricky and Marissa tie both took Kelley and Keanu,
they tie for 9th. Roberta and Tessa tie for 11th, as Demi
lands in 13th with a sarcastic “thanks for nothing” to Adrian and Ava,
who along with Katherine, Keanu and Lauren were the lowest scoring players of
the week.
