With seven
selections, Rizo was the most popular pick this week, followed by Alex with five
and MC with four. On that coin’s flip side, Kristina and Matt weren’t chosen at
all.
At Hina
(Yellow) the producers tell us there’s a much better vibe with happy music
playing as Kristina braids Jason’s hair.
He suggests going to look for the Beware advantage as a tribe. Watching
at home, Jason must be kicking himself for walking right past it but MC doesn’t
miss the chance, finding the Beware advantage hidden in a tree knot (2
points for “Find a Beware advantage” [MC] to Slater, Morgan, Chris and Amy D.!)
and opens it (2 points for “Open a Beware Advantage”[MC] to Slater,
Morgan, Chris and Amy D.!). Like the naïve Survivor player she is, she
believes that telling Steven will build trust with her. Sorry, MC, but S.T.F.U.
is PretendPoints Rule for Reality Games #1 for a reason. Telling someone else about an advantage to
build trust with them inevitably leads to them telling someone else…and for the
same reason!
Over at Uli, Nate is “chilling with the vibes”. Nate and I are around the same age. If you ever hear me utter that phrase without dripping sarcasm, check to see if I’m a pod person.
His core 4
with Rizo, Shannon and Savannah fall into the predictable trap – they don’t
talk game with Sage or Jawan, which tells those two they are clearly on the
outs. Trying to make inroads, Sage talks with Shannon about Savannah and Rizo
being a pair. Shannon rightly yes’s her but sees Savannah having the numbers on
her side. She tells Savannah about the conversation, leading Savannah to put
the target squarely on Sage’s back.
At Kele (Blue) camp following Annie’s departure to Alex calling their band “lovable losers” (5 points for “Say the title of the episode” [Alex] to Will, Kat, Stephanie, Jo and Tom!). They are as low as could be having no food, barely a shelter and no fire but Jake still has a positive attitude – the deadweight is gone. While neither wants to, Jeremiah and Sophi talk about what might have to happen next if they don’t win. Neither wants to turn, but Alex has an idol. (1 point for “Mention ‘in this game’”[Sophi] to Angela and Lia!). Jeremiah and Alex dislike the fruit they’re eating. It’s better than eating worms!
Sitting by
himself at the beach, Jake gets bitten by a snake! Jeremiah, Sophi and Alex tearfully look on as
/medical shows up and rushes him to the base camp, leaving a stunned Jeremiah
to openly hope he comes back. (1 point for “Mention ‘in this game’” [Jeremiah]
to Stephanie, Melissa and Blake!)
At Base
Camp, the doctor tells Jake the snake did not deliver any venom with the bite,
and his pain is mostly fear and adrenaline.
But with this good news comes the bad – he’ll still need food, and
rehydration. Medical pulls him from the
game! Unfortunately, I don’t have a
scoring category for this, and since he wasn’t voted out, I’m not going to
penalize those who drafted him.
Alex, Sophi
and Jeremiah show up to the immunity challenge and are brought to tears at the
news. Hina just wants to help Kele, but
not enough to give them immunity so on to the challenge we go!
In this
challenge, they have to climb a net and jump off a platform into the
snake-infested ocean, which is the only way I’ll see it from now on. Then they
move across a see-saw to get a key, cross some floating platforms and swim to
the end. At the end, they have to
complete a puzzle. First two tribes win
immunity and reward in the form of tarps.
As Kele is
down to three people, we have a lot of sit-outs
(2 points
for “Volunteer to sit out a challenge” [Jawan] to Slater, Danny and Kyle!)
(2 points
for “Volunteer to sit out a challenge” [Shannon] to Chris!)
(2 points
for “Volunteer to sit out a challenge” [Rizo] Morgan, Nickole, Kat, Jo, Amy A.,
Angela, and Blake!)
(2 points
for “Volunteer to sit out a challenge” [Sophie] to Lia!)
(2 points
for “Volunteer to sit out a challenge” [MC] to Slater, Morgan, Chris and Amy D.!)
They are all
about even, with Uli a bit behind until Kristina struggles on the net. Jeremiah and Sophi make the platforms look
easy as Kele is first to the puzzle, but Hina is right behind them.
Jeremiah
puts the first piece of the puzzle in, which is further than Kele got last
week. It’s very close. Jason for Hina is
destroying yet another puzzle, while Kele’s Jeremiah is doing well and Uli struggles.
Can this be where Kele finally breaks the curse???
Unfortunately for Kele, Jeremiah loses his momentum as Uli catches and passes Kele’s progress. Hina finishes first and devastatingly, Uli finishes second sending Kele to tribal council yet again. The only positive here is that even with Jake, they still would have lost. Sophi thinks this tribal will be fun to watch, but hell to be a part of. Indeed.
(6 points
for “Win Tribe Immunity” and “Win Tribe Reward” [Jawan] to Slater, Danny and Kyle!)
(6 points
for “Win Tribe Immunity” and “Win Tribe Reward” [Sage] to Danny and Nickole!)
(6 points
for “Win Tribe Immunity” and “Win Tribe Reward” [Shannon] to Chris!)
(6 points
for “Win Tribe Immunity” and “Win Tribe Reward” [Savannah] to Will, Tom and Kyle!)
(6 points
for “Win Tribe Immunity” and “Win Tribe Reward” [Nate] to Aly and Amy A.!)
(6 points
for “Win Tribe Immunity” and “Win Tribe Reward” [Rizo] Morgan, Nickole, Kat, Jo, Amy A.,
Angela, and Blake!)
(6 points
for “Win Tribe Immunity” and “Win Tribe Reward” [MC] to Slater, Morgan, Chris and Amy D.!)
(6 points
for “Win Tribe Immunity” and “Win Tribe Reward” [Sophie] to Lia!)
(6 points
for “Win Tribe Immunity” and “Win Tribe Reward” [Steven] to Scott and Aly!)
(6 points
for “Win Tribe Immunity” and “Win Tribe Reward” [Jason] to Scott!)
There are two morals to this story:
- I’m never swimming in the ocean again
- Someone on your tribe better be good at puzzles
Before
commercial, we are told that Jake is fine and made it home in time for the
birth of his son. I hope they bring him
back. He seems like a fun and interesting player.
Over at Uli,
they all pretend to be sad that Jake is gone, but let’s be honest. They didn’t cause him to get bitten. They’re
not sad a big contender is gone and I wouldn’t be either. Every step is a step
closer to the end.
They show
their sadness by doing a tribe Beware advantage hunt which earns Rizo the prize
(2 points for “Find a Beware Advantage”[Rizo] Morgan, Nickole, Kat, Jo, Amy
A., Angela, and Blake!) which he opens in front of the tribe (2 points
for “Open a Beware Advantage”[Rizo] Morgan, Nickole, Kat, Jo, Amy A., Angela,
and Blake!).
It’s an interesting dynamic back at Kele. Alex has an idol, and there are only three voters. He walks away to allow Sophi and Jeremiah to talk. They discuss the obvious – how to get him not to play his idol. Doing the math, Alex realizes that he’d be devastated if he went home with the idol but would live a happy life if he played it without needing to do so. Camp Astrologer Jeremiah knows Alex is a Libra, which apparently means he should not pressure or confront Alex.
Listening in
to their entire conversation, Sophi realizes she’s in trouble and tells Alex
how loyal she’d be if he chose to keep her over Jeremiah. It’s a good pitch, and it feels like the
right one.
At Tribal, Jeff resurrects the “sinking ship” metaphor he killed dead last week, noting that they see rudderless without Jake as a focal point. They talk a lot about their respective pitches, with Sophi again stressing loyalty and connection while Jeremiah says how loyal he’d be too….to Jake
AND THEN
HE SAYS IT AGAIN!
Alex is
looking for someone to duo with (1 point for “Mention ‘in this game’” [Alex]
to Will, Kat, Stephanie, Jo and Tom!). I don’t know if this has any sway
over Alex’s decision to play his idol, or who to vote for, but it definitely
would for me. At the vote, Sophi is
chosen to vote first again (2 points for “Chosen to vote first” [Sophi] to
Angela and Lia!). At the vote
reveal, Alex chooses safe over sorry and plays his idol on himself (2 points
for “Play a hidden immunity idol on yourself” [Alex] to Will, Kat, Stephanie,
Jo and Tom!)
The votes
are revealed – Jeremiah voted for Alex, but Sophi and Alex voted for Jeremiah
ending his time in Fiji. I have to
wonder if getting his name wrong TWICE influenced Alex’s vote.
(1 point
for “Received vote against” [Alex] to Will, Kat, Stephanie, Jo and Tom!)
(2 points
for “Received vote against” [Jeremiah] to Stephanie, Melissa and Blake!)
(-2
points for “The Tribe Has Spoken” [Jeremiah] against Stephanie, Melissa and
Blake!)
Having
survived the Kele boat crash Sophi and Alex are a duo now as we head to the
first merge of the season next week.
So, what
does that mean for our scores?
Beware
advantage finders MC and Rizo tied for the highest point totals this week at 12,
while Jeremiah put up a measly 2 on his way home and Jake put up a goose egg
(snake egg? Too soon?) before Medical ended his game.
In our game,
it was a good week to be Morgan who tops the scoreboard with a whopping 36 points this week! She earned points
for having both high scorers, answering the bonus and finding the secret points. Amy D. is only a point behind, earning points
for having both the highest and lowest scorers this week. They have a 10-point
advantage on 3rd place Jo.
Chris is in 4th, just a point ahead of Amy A. and Angela who moves
into a tie for 5th. They are a point ahead of 7th place Big
Brother winner Will, who himself is a point ahead of 8th place Slater.
Kyle sits in
9th a point ahead of Danny. They are trailed closely by Lia, Stephanie
and last year’s Survivor winner Tom who are all tied for 11th. I am tied with Aly for 14th, just
a point behind the group ahead. Kat sits
a point behind us. Nickole joins the
party with 18 points, as does Blake with 14.
But what I
think is the most interesting story of the season so far: Melissa has picked
the bottom two scorers two weeks in a row!
I’m sorry to make it sound like I’m
cheering for it Melissa but WOW! That’s
tough to do! Fortunately, she earns
points for having both of the two lowest scorers. Unfortunately, doing so two
weeks in a row leaves her in the basement.
