With only one selection each this week, Rizo led the way with 6 choices. He was followed by Sophie at 4 and Savannah at 3. Everyone else was drafted at least once. Even Kristina!

Second, 5 bonus points to Will and Amy D. for knowing the most arrogant, shameless self-promoting, self-proclaimed greatest of all time baseball player was Ricky Henderson.

On to the update!

Back At Camp

The final 8 congratulate themselves, as ever-humble Rizo explains that surviving another tribal with his idol is why he calls himself Rizgod.

Soph, Sophie, Savannah and Rizo talk about going for Steven with Kristina as the decoy.  Soph even goes so far as to try and convince Steven she’s cool with him voting for her at tribal.  Right. Sure. Ok.

Jawan wants to go Idol hunting, but Sage lets him in on Kristina’s secret, even after promising Steven she wouldn’t.  STFU is Rule #1 for a reason, people! Jawan thinks Kristina having an idol is dangerous, but Steven telling Sage and not him is worse.  He gets nowhere trying to pry the knowledge out of Steven and thinks maybe it’s time for Steven to go.  (1 point for “Mention ‘in this game’” [Jawan] to Danny!).

Kristina struggles with not taking game personally, Sophie, Jawan and Sage’s betrayal at the last tribal council has her reeling.  Steven tries to talk her down and wants to get Savannah, so they decide to use her Idol as a surprise attack.   Except Steven didn’t STFU…and now two people know. How long before everyone else does?  I give it 45 minutes.

Reward Challenge

Kristina is visibly struggling as they enter, and when Jeff probes (I heard it) her about it, she breaks down. Jeff builds her back up to the point where she’s ready to compete with a few questions. He managed this like an absolute pro.

In this challenge, they will be split into two teams of 4. In pairs, they will leap into the water off a platform, cross obstacles and retrieve buoys.  They will then swing the buoys into baskets. First team to land 3 wins a trip to the Sanctuary for burgers, hot dogs, and cake.

Blue: Sophie, Sophi, Steven and Sage

Yellow: Savannah, Jawan, Kristina and Rizo

Blue takes the lead as Rizo struggles on the balance beam, and their 2nd pair is in the water before Yellow even has a buoy.  The 2nd yellow team gets into the water needing to make up a lot of time, but Kristina struggles on the beam and swings under it.  She doesn’t give up though, and with Jeff exhorting her effort, inches her way to the platform. That was truly a terrific effort. Unfortunately, it’s for naught as Soph and Sage land the buoys, earning reward for Blue

(3 points for “Win Tribe Reward” [Sophi] to Jo, Chris, Angela and Kyle to Jo, Chris, Angela and Kyle!)

(3 points for “Win Tribe Reward” [Sophie] to Slater!)

(3 points for “Win Tribe Reward” [Sage] to Nickole!)

(3 points for “Win Tribe Reward” [Steven] to Scott!)

At The Sanctuary

Steven’s gas tank was below E, so this couldn’t come at a better time.  Despite feeling bad for Kristina and Rizo, who are clearly suffering, Sophie thinks this is the kind of reward that can power her to the end. She talks with Sage about a plan to get Savannah. Sophie agrees, of course, but in isn’t sure which side of the war to back.

Back At Camp

Rizo beats himself up for losing. (1 point for “Mention ‘in this game’” [Rizo] to Kat, Aly, Stephanie, Amy D., Amy A., and Lia!). Seeing that the game has taken a toll on everyone, camp provider Jawan decides to spear fish and successfully bags…the smallest fish in history but he’s proud nonetheless

It's a very prestigious award!

After the winners return, Steven, Rizo and Jawan decide to form a boy band. Their first three singles “Don’t Blindside Me Baby”, “You Drive Me Coconuts” and “I Got Sand In All The Wrong Places” is for sale now on Spotify.

Rizo, Sage, Jawan and Savannah talk about getting Steven out, which works for villainous Savannah because he can beat her in challenges.  She also believes Sage and Jawan “…have her best interests at heart.”. Sage has a somewhat….different opinion

Don’t stop believin’, Savannah!

Steven feels like the likely target, and has no loyalty to Savannah, so he’s fine with her as the target.  While he’s worried that Yellow Sophie will flip, Sage assures him she’s with them. For her part, Yellow Sophie sees being between the two factions as an unexpected power position and reminds herself to be ruthless and strategic, and to make apologies when you’re a millionaire back home.

It’s not Zack Galifianakis. It’s Robert Redford!  Really!

Immunity Challenge

In this challenge, they will race through a see-saw tunnel, then maneuver discs around an obstacle to release a handle. They’ll then use the handle to carry puzzle pieces across a balance beam. First person to solve the puzzle wins immunity.  Jeff offers enough rice to last until the end of the game for three sit-outs but gets no takers. They’re here to compete!

They can take as many pieces as they want at a time over the beam, and Steven takes full advantage. He takes three on his first trip and four on his second. By the time Savannah and Sophie start on the puzzle, he’s got a good lead.  Unfortunately for him, he’s not great at puzzles and Sophie is.  She blows right past him, demolishing the puzzle and wins her 2nd individual immunity of the season! (8 points for “Win Individual Immunity” [Sophie] to Slater!)

Back At Camp

Before the challenge, Steven and Savannah were the targets. Where will the target land? Who knows? Let Plinko begin!

It's anyone's guess where the ball will land

Sage and Jawan are still on Savannah but fearing Rizo’s idol (STILL! AGAIN! FFS!), they have to keep the plan under wraps. Believing Sage and Jawan are with him, Rizo thinks they are golden on the numbers to get Steven.

Sage tells Sophie – who we just heard isn’t sure which side she wants to back - that her “gut” says Kristina has an Idol.  THIS IS WHY YOU KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT!  You don’t truly know where someone’s loyalty is. Sage has lofty goals of flushing both idols while sending Savannah home, but her read here is a bad one.

Sophie decides to protect Savannah by telling her about the Idol and that Sage and Jawan are flipping. She does this because she sees Savannah as a “Challenge Shield”.

Author’s Note: This is the 2nd time in two weeks that Sophie has overthought into pretzel logic. Savannah wants Steven out because he can beat her in challenges. Sophie wants Savannah to stay because she can beat Sophie in challenges.

Don't be so open minded that your brains fall out!

Anyway, Sophie’s message about the Idol and Sage/Jawan flipping hits home with Rizo and Savannah…WHICH IS EXACTLY WHY YOU DON’T TELL ANYONE. Rizo thinks this locks Sophie as an ally, and that he’ll play his idol for Savannah if needed.

Kristina and Steven think there’s enough momentum to get Savannah and decide to put one vote on Rizo in case he plays his idol for her. When Savannah directly presses Kristina on who she’s voting for, she sees Kristina’s hesitation as a sign that she needs to play her extra vote. (1 point for “Mention ‘in this game’” [Savannah] to Will, Morgan and Tom!).

Rizo, Savannah and Sophi talk about who to use the extra vote on, and its’ a coin-flip between Jawan and Sage. To lock her in as an ally, Soph suggests letting Sophie choose and Sophie chooses Jawan.

So, where did the Plinko ball land?  We find out at….

Tribal Council

Rizo is all smiles walking in and tells Jeff this is where the game is won and lost, a statement Savannah and Sophie agree with. Kristina is terrified, and her pulse probably quickens as Rizo mentioned how she and Steven were left out of the last vote and could be easy pickings. Easy for him to say, Steven shares, as he has an Idol up his sleeve.

Author’s Note #2: I pay very close attention to the show, taking copious notes to write these updates every week and I can’t remember how long Rizo’s had that idol.  4 episodes? 5? More?  It feels like forever. I feel like a broken record here. MAKE HIM PLAY IT OR MAKE HIM GO HOME WITH IT ALREADY.

Soph thinks Tribal is fun because you don’t know if people are trying to send messages or mislead others or telling the truth.  My take away is that she thinks it’s fun because no one talks about her. (1 point for “Mention ‘in this game’” [Sophi] to Jo, Chris, Angela and Kyle!).

At the vote, she’s chosen to vote first AGAIN (3 points for “First Person Chosen To Vote” [Sophi] to Jo, Chris, Angela and Kyle to Jo, Chris, Angela and Kyle!).

As the votes come in, the fireworks start. Kristina decides to play her idol for Steven.

(5 points for “Play An Idol On Someone Else” [Kristina] to Melissa!)

(6 points for “Someone Else Plays An Idol On You” [Steven] to Scott!)

Rizo decides to play his idol for Savannah, giving a speech about finding out who’s with him and who’s not except…it’s not a real idol.  Holding a real idol, he chose to make the speech and play a fake.  He’s just gauging the reaction on who’s happy he’s playing the idol vs. who isn’t. He may be a shameless self-promoter, but he’s playing the game at a higher level than anyone else.

Jeff says all votes for Savannah will still count.  Dumbfounded, Jawan implores him to play the real one, but he keeps it in his pocket.

As the votes are read, Savannah gets mad at Jawan for orchestrating votes against her, but she orchestrated the votes against him. Rizo receives one vote, Savannah receives three votes, but Plinko landed on Jawan. He’s voted out with five votes, Savannah having played her extra vote on him.

(2 points for “Use A Secret Advantage” [Savannah] to Will, Morgan and Tom!)

(1 point for “Receive Vote Against” [Rizo] to Kat, Aly, Stephanie, Amy D., Amy A., and Lia!)

(3 points for “Receive Vote Against” [Savannah] to Will, Morgan and Tom!)

(5 points for “Receive Vote Against” [Jawan] to Danny!)

(-2 points for “The Tribe Has Spoken” [Jawan] to Danny!)

(2 points for “Juror #4” [Jawan] to Danny!)

That's what a blindside is, Jawan

So, what does that mean for our scores?

Morgan retains her lead and despite Rizo doing almost nothing,  2nd place Amy D. keeps pace thanks to bonus points.  Angela remains in 3rd  while Will jumps into a 4th place tie with Jo.  He pushes Kat back to 6th. Melissa’s bet on Kristina doesn’t pay off. She drops into a 7th place tie with your favorite fantasy Survivor blogger (that’s me, ingrates!). Danny and Kyle remain in 9th and 10th, respectively.  Weekly leading scorer Slater rises from a 14th place tie into 11th.  He knocks Stephanie back a spot while dropping Wheel-Of-Names-Aly, and Amy A. into a 3-way tie for 13th place with Tom.  16th place Chris keeps closing in on triple digits, but Sophi’s 4 points didn’t get him there yet. He’s 6 points ahead of 17th place Lia.  Recently-returned Nickole languishes near the bottom, but she’s not close to the basement which still claims Blake as its preferred resident.
