Second, no
one got the bonus points! Several of
you had the idea but no one could place “I coulda been a contender! I coulda
been somebody!” as Marlon Brando in On The Waterfront. It’s a classic!
Ok, on to
the update!
Back at
loser camp, Jawan proves he doesn’t understand what a blindside is by saying they
blindsided Matt and then Jason. It’s not a blindside when they know it’s
coming! I get why Savannah wants him
gone.
We are
summoned to an immediate competition, and Jeff thinks this has been the hardest
11 days Survivor has ever had due to the heat.
When Alex says he’s dragging now, despite killing and eating the chicken
last night, Savannah mutters “Oh shut the hell up”. I get the feeling she looks for reasons to be
offended by things. And finds them.
It's not the
merge yet, but it is time to drop their buffs! They get split back up into
three tribes of four. The new tribes
are:
Hina: MC,
Sophi, Rizo, Savannah
Uli: Alex,
Sophie, Nate, Kristina
Kele:
Steven, Shannon, Sage, Jawan
Sage and
Shannon are fated to be together, it seems. I’m sure Shannon would appreciate
that thought as much as it’d drive Sage crazy.
Kristina struggles with the exhaustion, and heat and nearly passes
out. Medical thinks she’s ok, so she’s
still in the game – well as much as she is “in the game” anyway.
Fun fact: With 11 of us playing, we make 22 picks a week. This is Week 6. That means we’ve made over 120 picks. You know how many of those picks were Kristina?
Thanks for
playing Kristina. I look forward to almost remembering you three years from
now.
On to the
Reward Challenge!
The tribes
have to push a heavy cart along a track and collect sandbags. Then climb 2
ladders to knock down 4 frisbee style discs.
They will use the discs to knock down poles. First team to knock down all four poles wins
grilled cheese, chips, brownies and iced tea.
Second team wins just grilled cheese. Third team gets to spend another
hot day staring at each other, wondering what went wrong.
Alex takes
an early lead knocking down discs for Uli, but MC is right behind him. Steven
struggles but Kele comes back to take the lead! Alex struggles on his 2nd
set of discs, letting Steven and Rizo take multiple shots at their
targets. Rizo quickly dispatches the
four poles and wins reward for Hina!
(3 points
for “Win Tribe Reward” [Rizo] to Scott, Carol, Iyasah and Dalphyne!)
(3 points
for “Win Tribe Reward” [MC] to Jay, Carol, Roberta, Iyasah, Ricky and Marissa!)
(3 points
for “Win Tribe Reward” [Sophi] to no one!)
(3 points
for “Win Tribe Reward” [Savannah] to Brian!)
Alex is
still behind but Jawan struggles for Kele, allowing him to catch up. After they
get to 3 each, Alex knocks down his final pole and wins the showdown for Uli!
(3 points
for “Win Tribe Reward” [Alex] to no one!)
(3 points
for “Win Tribe Reward” [Sophie] to Kristyn!)
(3 points
for “Win Tribe Reward” [Nate] to Roberta, Ricky and Gloria!)
(3 points
for “Win Tribe Reward” [Kristina] to no one!)
Kele loses
again. That tribe is cursed!
At Kele
beach, the chickens escape and I’m rooting for them to get away. Steven catches one but that doesn’t change
him being the only non-Uli member of this tribe. He tries to bond with Jawan
over nerd stuff, but it doesn’t look good for him. Jawan plays Steven the same way he played
Matt – yessing him and making him feel comfortable. It’s a lie though – he and Shannon want to
keep Uli-strong with Sage.
Shannon does her spiritual meditation on the beach again and despite spending time with Steven, she thinks Sage and Jawan are totally in lockstep. She thinks no one knows how close she is with Sage. That includes Sage who is….less into it
Shannon was
throwing Sage’s name out two days ago, and Sage hasn’t forgotten. Karma is something
with which Shannon is familiar and Sage hopes to give her an object lesson in
it.
At Uli, Nate
enjoys grilled cheese but he’s the odd
man out. He tells them their former tribe mate Matt was an easy vote, but Jason
less so. Alex and Sophie don’t buy it – they rightly think Nate will flip back
to old Uli as soon as he can.
The three former Hina’s agree to stay strong and target Nate. Kristina wants to keep him from playing his shot in the dark and suggests using Sophie as a decoy. Sophie doesn’t respond well to this and tells Alex she’d be happy to get Kristina out instead.
Finally, at
Hina, Sophi finally gets some food. MC enjoys it too, but she’s the odd person
out on this tribe which could spell trouble.
She decides to play some offense and tells Rizo she knows about his
Idol. It’s a bonding moment for them,
but it could easily have gone the other way.
Rizo wants to have his Ozzy moment and decides to try spear fishing. (5 points for “Mention a previous season’s player” [Rizo] to Scott, Carol, Iyasah and Dalphyne!). Watching him walk in the flippers is genuinely hilarious, as he thinks they are evil Devil’s shoes (5 points for “Say the episode title” [Rizo] to Scott, Carol, Iyasah and Dalphyne!) and (1 point for “Mention ‘in this game’” [Rizo] to Scott, Carol, Iyasah and Dalphyne!). Savannah thinks he’s Ozzy Jr. (5 points for “Mention a previous season’s player” [Savannah] to Brian!). You be the judge
I guess the
time in the water cleared his head, because Rizo suggests there might be an
advantage out there somewhere. They didn’t search last week. Now they are
searching. I wonder if Production is telling them to go look. Sophie may be
more worried about spiders than snakes (1 point for “Mention ‘in this game’”
[Sophie] to Kristyn!) but that doesn’t stop her from finding the advantage (7
points for “Find a secret advantage” [Sophie] to Kristyn!). Welcome to the game, Sophie! It’s a Knowledge is Power advantage, and
while she knows Rizo has an idol, he’s an ally for now….and who knows what else
is out there?
At the
immunity challenge, they have to race over a hinged cargo net, then move a
heavy sandbags, building a pile they will climb the to grab a bag full of
sticks and string. They’ll then use the
string and sticks to build a pole long enough to grab a key. The key releases a
ball they’ll use to solve a 2-person labyrinth maze. First two tribes to finish
are safe. Losers have a date with Jeff.
MC makes
climbing the sandbags look easy, putting Hina in the lead and as Sophi builds
Hina’s pole, Shannon grabs Kele’s bag
with Alex right behind her for Uli. Steven catches up to Kristina. As both begin
building their tribe’s pole, Sophi finishes hers and retrieves her key. Steven passes by Kristina whose pole is
flimsy and falls apart. She finally gets it but the other two tribes have a
tremendous lead.
Rizo and
Savannah make short work of the labyrinth puzzle, marking Hina safe.
(3 points
for “Win tribe Immunity” [Rizo] to Scott, Carol, Iyasah and Dalphyne!)
(3 points
for “Win Tribe Immunity” [MC] to Jay, Carol, Roberta, Iyasah, Ricky and Marissa!)
(3 points
for “Win Tribe Immunity” [Savannah] to Brian!)
(3 points
for “Win Tribe Immunity” [Sophi] to no one!)
It’s the
first time Sophi hasn’t gone to tribal council!
Jawan and
Sage are really close to the center but when Jawan panics, they drop and have
to start over. This gives Sophie and
Nate the chance they needed, and they cash in winning immunity for Uli and
sending Kele to tribal council….again.
(3 points
for “Win Tribe Immunity” [Sophie] to Kristyn!)
(3 points
for “Win Tribe Immunity” [Nate] to Roberta, Ricky and Gloria!)
(3 points
for “Win Tribe Immunity” [Kristina] to no one!)
(3 points
for “Win Tribe Immunity” [Alex] to no one!)
We hear the
familiar loser refrains back at Kele camp. They did all they could. Blah blah
blah. You lost.
Finally put
to the Tribal Council test, Shannon sees
that Steven has relationships with other tribes that she may want to leverage. Jawan
and Sage were on the bottom of old Uli. Would she flip on them?
She asks Sage about flipping on Jawan and Sage plays it perfectly. Sage is all for a “Flip on former Uli” tribe member but not the one Shannon is thinking. She CANNOT STAND Shannon, and I AM HERE FOR IT! Jawan, who has no idea what’s going on, thinks he and Shannon control the votes. He’s shocked when Sage tells him Shannon targeted him for real during their “Sister Time”. Shannon may have loved "Sister Time" with Sage, but Sage had...other reactions
Her first
time at Tribal Council, Shannon is scared but as a fan, this is her opening and
daggone it that’s who she is as a person.
She goes on a new-wave, hippie-dippy bullshit mini-ramble about keeping
our hearts open that she probably thinks is deep. All I can think is “I can’t believe Sage kept
a straight face”. Not only did Sage manage it, she butters up Shannon with “I
was hoping we’d have a yogi or something on the tribe and we got so lucky with
Shannon.”
Shannon eats
it up. I am speechless. That is
incredible.
Jawan is
kinda open too, until someone gives him a reason not to be (1 point for
“Mention ‘in this game’” [Jawan] to no one!).
Sage thinks you can play hard, but you also have to play well –
people can’t catch you playing too hard. That ginormous red flag sailed right
over Shannon’s head.
At the vote,
Shannon is chosen to go up first (3 points for “First person chosen to vote”
[Shannon] to no one!). No advantages
or Idols are present at tribal. When the votes are read, Jawan gets Shannon’s vote,
but the hippie-dippy doe-eyed beach meditating yogi shark gets the other three
and is sent to the Ponderosa.
(1 point
for “Received vote against” [Jawan] to no one!)
(3 points
for “Received vote against” [Shannon] to no one!)
(-2
points for “The Tribe Has Spoken” [Shannon] to no one!)
Sage can’t
believe it worked and won’t hug her goodbye because she wants that hug to be
genuine and it can’t be right now.
She’s becoming one of my favorite players ever!
So, what
does that mean for the scores?
From out of
nowhere, Sophie led all Survivors this week with 14 points. Popular choice Rizo was 2 behind at 12. On the flipside, Sage and Steven both had
zero, zip, nada, nothing. No one had any
of these combinations.
In our game, Carol takes a 2-point lead over Iyasah, as Marissa drops from a first-place tie into 3rd thanks to Sage’s big, fat 0! Kristyn jumps into 4th with Brian just a point behind her in 5th. I move into 6th thanks to Rizo. Dalphyne is a point behind me in 7th. Ricky moves back into 8th, but the big faller this week is Jay who drops from 6th to 9th. Roberta and Gloria are still fighting it out to remain out of the basement, with Roberta currently in the lead.
