With MC gone, Rizo now tops the “Most Popular” list with 5 selections. He’s followed by Sophie, Savannah, Sage and Alex who were selected 3 times each. Kristina, once again, remains undrafted.

Second, 5 bonus points to Carol for correctly identifying the song describing Savannah’s trip to the bottom and then back to the top is the first lyric of “Helter Skelter”, a song Charles Manson stole from the Beatles and U2 stole back.  Check it out, it’s the best concert opener I ever heard!

On to the update!

Back At Camp

We left with the tribe split with half of them safe at camp and half voting out MC at Tribal Council. Speculation runs amok at camp that Sophie is the easy choice due to how well she did in competitions. She may be in an alliance with Sophie, but Kristina wouldn’t mind her going home because it wouldn’t get blood on her hands.  Someone should probably tell Kristina how alliances work. She clearly doesn’t know.

When the others return MC-less, and Rizo still has his idol, Kristina feels gut-punched as MC was her ride-or-die.  Sophie fought like hell to stay, and seeing their genuinely shocked reactions that she was still here is an eye-opener for her. She forswears allegiance to Steven and Kristina, declaring to us that she’s now a free agent.

Savannah breaks Rule #1: STFU and shares with Soph that she banked her vote.  They’re pretty tight now, but I still think it’s a bad idea.  Soph still thinks they are on the bottom but (incorrectly) thinks they have all the advantages or idols still in play.  Rizo is on cloud nine, seeing that in addition to his allies having all the powers he’s also gained an ally in Sophie.

Everyone else watching Rizo play 3D Chess

Without MC, Steven needs a new “person” and chooses Sage with whom he’s in the “Bottom’s Up” Alliance. He tells her that Kristina has an idol, but not to share even with Jawan, which Sage agrees to. Steven thinks that Sophie being shocked that they were shocked she came back means she didn’t see the tides turning against her. He’s right, but it’s too narrow a view and if he talked about what happens with Sophie next, we don’t get to see it.

Sage, Alex and Steven talk about Rizo, Savannah or Sophie as the next target. Alex has been playing the middle, seeing Sage and Jawan as the power group which is a ludicrously bad read.  Staying firmly in the middle, he tells Rizo and Savannah they are the targets. Ever haughty, Rizo shamelessly self-promotes his brilliance in seeing right through Alex’s attempts to play both sides, noting “If you’re loyal to all, you’re loyal to none” (5 points for “Say the title of the episode” [Rizo] to Jay, Dalphyne, Iyasah, Ricky and Brian!)

5 points if you can name him, the most arrogant baseball player of all-time.

Reward Challenge

In this challenge, they are split into two “tribes” of four. Sophi is the odd person out and can choose which team’s fate to share. This will be scored as “Win Tribal Reward”, and Sophi will not be eligible for points since she’s not competing.

They have to roll a big, heavy metal cube through an obstacle course, climb it to retrieve a sandbag, crawl under a net, use the sandbag to knock three rungs off a tall pole and then frisbee toss them back onto the pole.  First team to land all three wins fried chicken, fries, soda, lemonade, cheesecake and blueberries.  Jawan tries not to think about the reward since he’s done that every time and lost every time.

The teams are:

Yellow: Rizo, Sage, Steven, Jawan

Blue: Kristina, Sophie, Alex, Savannah

Soph: Chose to back the Yellow team (which I’d have done too)

Yellow takes a short lead retrieving their bag, but Blue catches up at the ring knock-down. Steven knocks his rings down for Yellow first, and Rizo gets some practice trying to land them back onto the pole while Sophie struggles to knock them down for Blue.  Rizo’s made no progress and switches to Jawan as Sophie finally knocks down the rings.  Alex quickly lands 1-2-3 and takes home the win for Blue!

You tell 'em, LL!

(3 points for “Win Tribe Reward” [Alex] to Scott, Roberta and Ricky!)

(3 points for “Win Tribe Reward” [Savannah] to Carol, Brian and Gloria]!)

(3 points for “Win Tribe Reward” [Kristina] to no one!)

(3 points for “Win Tribe Reward” [Sophie] to Carol, Roberta and Dalphyne!)

Kristina, who’s won rewards already, begs Jawan to trade with her so he can eat.  This is a genuine moment, and one I can’t recall seeing before.  Jeff will allow it, but Jawan is reluctant, wanting to have earned it, but the thought of food overpowers his sense of propriety, and he accepts the offer. Note: He didn’t “win” reward – Kristina did – so Kristina gets the points.

At The Winner Meal

Jawan is happy he made the swap, and shares some of his backstory about always need to feel like the provider.  Still feeling betrayed by her “allies” reactions, Sophie shares an honest angry reaction to her “inevitable” torch snuffing.  They’re all open for business, but nothing seems to take root.

Back At Camp

Sage and Kristina finally decide it’s time to flush Rizo’s idol, they just need numbers. All I can do is shake my head and try to find the right meme to describe it.  Here’s the best I got:

How many times do we need to say it ?!?!?!?1!?!?!?!eleven!!!

Thinking Soph is more concerned with being on the right side of the vote, Kristina tells Soph the plan to get Rizo’s idol out while splitting the vote onto Savannah. Soph follows Rule #7: Always Say Yes but she has no plans to follow through with that. (1 point for “Mention ‘in this game’” [Sophi] to Scott and Jay!). When the winners return, Soph shares the plan with Savannah. They feel like a true threesome now, and they all have advantages.

Hearing the other side’s plan, Savannah wants either Sage or Jawan while Rizo wants to build a common enemy in Alex. He tells Sophie how Alex wanted her out, and it’s a perfect fit. Sophie’s betrayal is still fresh. She’s looking for a lifeline and Rizo’s it.  The self-proclaimed superstar moves on to Sage and Jawan who also fall for his exaggerated stories.

I mean, he's got a point

Immunity Challenge

In this challenge, they will sit back and use their feet to press a disc against a horizontal pole.  Last man and woman to drop win individual immunity.

Faster than I can type up the instructions, Rizo drops (3 points for “First Person Out Of Individual Immunity Challenge” [Rizo] to Jay, Dalphyne, Iyasah, Ricky and Brian!). Kristina quickly follows, of course.  Savannah tries to distract everyone by asking Steven to quote facts about space, and he has a ton of them.

Scott’s favorite space fact: It is approximated that there are 2,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (that’s 200 billion trillion) stars.  Yet if you flew off the Earth in any direction and travelled forever, you have a 99% chance of travelling forever without hitting anything. That’s how vast space is.

Anyway, Sage drops at about the 15-minute mark, Sage, Alex, Soph and Jawan drop meaning (8 points for “Win Individual Immunity” [Steven] to Kristyn and Gloria!). The women come down to Sophie vs. Savannah again and they get to 20 minutes, 30, 40!  Savannah still hasn’t even moved while it’s obvious Sophie is struggling.  A few minutes later, she drops and the villain is safe again. (8 points for “Win Individual Immunity” [Savannah] to Carol, Brian and Gloria]!).

Rizo thinks the challenge went great (1 point for “Mention ‘in this game’” [Rizo] to Jay, Dalphyne, Iyasah, Ricky and Brian!). While Savannah feels like winning was a necessity, which is how villains generally feel.

Back At Camp

The chaos begins.

Sophie, Kristina and Steven are going for Rizo. Sage and Jawan can split their vote to Sophi to block Rizo’s idol play. Sophie likes that plan, but she also likes her burgeoning relationship with Rizo, who tells her about Jawan and Sage joining him to go for Alex.

Jawan wanted to work with Alex and tells him Rizo’s plan, but he’s soured on Alex’s messy play.  Alex goes to Sophie, Kristina and Sage about Rizo but it’s too late. Rizo got there first and he’s in their heads.

Got all that? Good, because it’s time for…

Tribal Council

The tribe scrambled today with many chefs in the kitchen, some at the beach and a few at the water well. Rizo sees that as fluidity, people coming together for a vote rather than tribal lines. Savannah is happy her immunity win disrupted the plans since her name was out there.  “Can you say ‘cocky’” ` The Quotable Carol. Yes, I can.

She's the Bad Guy

Having been at many tribal councils means Soph has been “playing the game” more than anyone else and wants to play it with people who are already “awake” and know how to play, meaning Rizo and Savannah.  Rizo plays up the “I’m going to play the idol” again, saying he’d be foolish if he believed he’s safe.

While Sage thinks she can tell when someone’s losing it, Kristina has no idea if she’s got a good poker face, Jawan thinks he’s been building trust over the last few votes and is ready to take a shot at a big target, an open threat to Rizo to play his idol.

Alex thinks everyone has their own criteria about whether they buy people’s stories. At least he got that right. (1 point for “Mention ‘in this game’” [Alex] to Scott, Roberta and Ricky!). Letting her thoughts tie her into a pretzel, Sophie has convinced herself that letting Rizo keep the Idol is the better option because she’d rather know where the idol is than have to guess.

Sophie

At the vote, Sophi is chosen to go first…again. (3 points for “First Person Choen To Vote” [Sophi] to Scott and Jay!).

Somehow, Rizo has the guts to keep the idol in his pocket AGAIN. He has the guts of a riverboat gambler, I’ll give him that. His decision proves to be the right one as the votes come in.  He receives one vote, Sophi gets two but it’s Alex who bags the other six, becoming the third member of the jury.

(1 point for “Received Vote Against” [Rizo] to Jay, Dalphyne, Iyasah, Ricky and Brian!)

(2 points for “Received Vote Against” [Sophi] to Scott and Jay!)

(6 points for “Received Vote Against” [Alex] to Scott, Roberta and Ricky!)

(-2 points for “The Tribe Has Spoken” [Alex] to Scott, Roberta and Ricky!)

(2 points for “Jury Member #3” [Alex] to Scott, Roberta and Ricky!)

Farewell, Mr. Brightside

So, what does that mean for our scores?

With 12 points, Savannah tops the scoreboard for the 2nd week in a row. She’s followed by Alex and Rizo who were tied at 10.  Sage and Jawan both put up goose eggs this week and tie for low scorers.  Brian gets 2 points each for having the high/high combination of Savannah and Rizo. Marissa receives 3 ignominious points for having Sage and Jawan, who put up 0 between them.  No one had the High/Low combinations.

Carol continues to lead by 8 over your favorite recapper / gamemaster / pontificator who’s in 2nd. Iyasah remains in 3rd, and newcomer Gloria moves up again. She’s now in 4th! Brian takes a big jump from 9th to 5th thanks to his big week. But when some go up, others must fall and so it is for Marissa whose 3-point week drops her to 6th. Ricky is hot on her heels though in 7th. Jay remains in 8th. Despite putting up 13 points, Dalphyne drops from 6th to 9th while Kristyn’s 8-point effort drops her into basement level tie with Roberta!
