Survivor 47: Champions League Update #12

Before we get started, a reminder of who has whom:

Second, 5 bonus points each to Carol, Marissa and Kristyn who knew the original comp beast pictured in last week’s update was Ozzy!

We pick back up at camp with Sue finally getting her revenge on Kyle for the *ONE* vote she received.  Sam sees himself in a tight spot with Genevieve and Caroline sees that she and Sue have been running the game. I’d debate that.

Meanwhile, Genevieve apologizes to The Joker for discounting his game.  She is starting to realize that cold, calculating lawyers don’t earn jury votes (1 point for “Mention ‘in this game’” [Genevieve] to Kristyn!) and despite wanting to be the big, bad wolf she needs to be the puppy for a while.

Along with Teeny, Genevieve thinks Rachel is the biggest threat to win (and that’s without knowing Rachel has an idol).  Teeny sees that as a threat, asking Genevieve if she’d vote for Rachel over Teeny.  Genevieve sees Teeny using emotion as a weapon as pretty messed up. Finally, Rachel thinks Sam and Genevieve are targeting her but she’s confident in her five-person alliance.

At the reward competition, they have to retrieve two balls from obstacles and then land them on high perches. First to land both wins reward – a night at the Sanctuary for Italian food and letters from home!

Rachel jumps out to a quick lead with Genevieve, the Joker and Sam close behind. Sam catches Rachel at stage two and is the first to the final stage.  Sue, Teeny and Caroline are nowhere to be seen. He lands his first ball. Shortly after Rachel lands her first ball, Sam lands the 2nd winning reward! (8 points for “Win individual reward [Sam] to Ricky!).

Now for the hard part: Sam has to choose two people to go with him…and four to send back. He takes The Joker and Genevieve (3 points each for “Chosen by someone else to go on reward” [Andy], [Genevieve] to Jay and Kristyn!).  He’s apologetic but why?  Everyone he didn’t choose is actively targeting both him and Genevieve and being boastful about it.

ZZZZING!

This is Sam’s 3rd trip to the Sanctuary, but he’s never won an immunity.  He tries flipping The Joker, which let’s be honest, isn’t difficult.  After an Italian feast, and an emotional time with the letters from home, Andy has developed a plan.

He suggests they build suspicion that someone found an idol at the Sanctuary and they need to split the votes to flush it.  Then, he’ll vote with Sam and Genevieve to target Rachel.  He also tells them about Rachel’s block-a-vote advantage, proving once again why Rule #1: STFU is the first on the list.  Operation: Italy is born! (5 points for “Say the title of the episode” [The Joker] to Jay!).

This is his 3rd or 4th game changing move.  He is REALLY playing the game.

Back at camp, Teeny is PISSED she wasn’t chosen to go on reward.  Sam should have picked her to go as a hail-mary to try and win her over. There’s red wine at the Sanctuary…but the only thing at camp is Teeny’s sour grapes.  She’s so livid here.  It’s like she’s programmed to hate the All-American quarterback. I get that Teeny has history and gender concerns, but exploding like this?

Bad form!

5 points if you can name this actor.

No internet sleuthing!

Reward winners return to camp and Sam starts apologizing and playing dead (1 point for “Mention ‘in this game’” [Sam] to Ricky!). He pitches Rachel to Caroline and Teeny because they expect him to do that.  Genevieve takes Sam’s expired Idol and two strings from treemail to make a fake, and it looks convincing.  (5 points for “Create a fake hidden immunity idol” [Genevieve] to Kristyn!).  The Joker reintegrates himself with the women, saying they wined and dined, and then strong-armed him. Then he sets Operation: Italy into play telling them he thinks Genevieve has an idol. Only Teeny isn’t in favor of splitting the vote.

He’s an agent of chaos

At the immunity challenge, they have to cross a balance beam while holding a ball on a plate, then move skulls through a maze to collect two more balls. Finally, they have to roll all three balls onto a dimpled paddle. First person to land all three wins immunity.

Teeny finishes stage 1 first, but Sam and Rachel catch her at Stage 2, and pull ahead as Andy catches Teeny.  Once again, Sue, Genevieve and Caroline are nowhere to be seen.  Sam gets to Stage 3 first, but Rachel quickly dominates that stage and takes home her 2nd individual immunity! (8 points for “Win individual immunity” [Rachel] to Carol!).

Back at camp, Genevieve and Sam vacillate between Teeny and Caroline. Teeny doesn’t think Genevieve really has an idol, but Andy plays it perfectly. Trying to determine what’s true, Teeny tells Sam and Genevieve the vote’s between them tonight. Playing “We’re on the same side”, Genevieve slides Teeny a knowing glance, saying put all the votes on Genevieve.  She flashes the fake idol just long enough for Teeny to buy that it’s real and hurriedly puts it away as Andy approaches.

If they planned that it would not have come off as perfectly.  Teeny is sold. The three see Caroline as the target (1 point for “Mention ‘in this game’” [The Joker] to Jay!)  since she’s the brains of her duo with Sue.

Caroline searches Genevieve’s bag for the idol but comes up empty.  Sue says she may play her idol for Caroline tonight, which would make for an amazing Tribal!  Finally, Genevieve runs through all the ways Operation: Italy can fail…but there’s only one way it succeeds.

At tribal council, Genevieve recounts why she was so distant and while that resonates with the Joker, Teeny doesn’t have that problem. An emotional player, Teeny is still salty about not being chosen. Sue thought being left behind was painful, but that made her stronger.

The three remaining questions, according to Teeny, are 1) Who can I beat? 2) How do I get to the final tribal and 3) Who else is the biggest threat to win?

Everyone sees “biggest threat” differently and hearing “perception is reality” is as common as hearing “bless you” after a sneeze.  While Sue thinks today was more relaxed, the Joker wondered where the catch was. Teeny sees the pecking order and that Sam is at the end of his rope.

At the vote, Sam “convinces” Genevieve not to play her “idol” and…it works. Everyone’s idols and advantages stay in their pockets.  Andy comes through on his flip. Sam and Genevieve each get two votes, but Caroline catches the other three and is voted out, becoming Juror #5. (2 points each for “Received vote against” [Sam], [Geneiveve] to Ricky and Kristyn!), (3 points for “Received vote against” [Caroline] to Jen!), (-2 points for “The Tribe Has Spoken” against Jen!) and (2 points for “Jury member” [Caroline] to Jen!).

Finally, on the jury, Sol notes that it was Andy that flipped again (5 points for “Shown talking on the jury” [Sol] to Carol!)

The Joker is truly an evil genius, but everyone knows this move now. He’s out of the shadows.

What does this mean for our scores?  Jay remains in the lead thanks to Andy’s continual episode naming skills, but 2nd place Ricky picked up a few points thanks to Sam’s reward win. 3rd place Carol closes the gap on 2nd thanks to Rachel’s immunity and Sol’s jury chatter (along with some bonus points!).  She remains ahead of 4th place Kristyn.  5th place Marissa holds out hope that Teeny can squeak into the finals while 6th place Dalphyne wonders if Sue will do anything besides plan her next plastic surgery.
