Before we get started, a reminder of who has whom:
Second, no one got the bonus points! Fornicatingly Incandescent is a made up old timey term that would translate to…. FUCKING BRILLIANT, which Kyle’s move definitely was.
On to the update!
We pick back up at camp as Mary realizes she’s a black widow
– everyone that pairs up with her winds up dead. Stephanie, Kevin, David and
now Star. She starts working Kamila to
go after Eva and Joe. Kamila wants to,
but worries that it means either Kyle or Shauhin to flip. (1 point for “Mention ‘in this game’
[Kamila] to Dalphyne!). Mary
continues trying to stay one more day by pitching Mitch, who finally, just now
realizes that Joe has been dominating, and they need to do something…..
Kyle and Joe are solid in their foursome with Shauhin and
Eva, and they see Mary as the next to go. Joe thinks this is the hardest path. I don’t think I agree. Separately, Kyle’s anxiety about the other
three being tighter with each other than him has him questioning who he could
beat at the end. (1 point for
“Mention ‘in this game’” [Kyle] to Jay!).
He’s already questioning whether to take a shot at Joe when
Mary pitches the idea of using her as a number and then cutting her. Kyle’s considering it, he’s not telling her. After
trying Kamila, then Mitch and now Kyle, Mary is pissed that no one will listen
to her plan and takes it out on the tribe’s dwindling stack of coconuts. Eva thinks Mary eating so much coconut is
selfish since she’s going home. Kamila is also pissed at Mary breaking the
coconut etiquette (5 points for “Say the title of the episode” [Kamila] to Dalphyne!).
I want to root for Eva and Joe but between how condescending
Joe was to Mary last week, and now Eva’s attitude toward her, they make it
difficult.
Kyle and Kamila discuss Mary’s plan, which Kamila
favors. Kyle is caught in the middle
between his #1 Kamila and the Strong 4 and he gets emotional about eventually
betraying one or the other.
A boat arrives to take someone on a journey and Eva worries about
the possible advantage falling into the non-Alliance’s hands (1 point for “Mention
‘in this game’” [Eva] to Ricky! Too
many people volunteer, so they decide by drawing rocks, and wouldn’t you know
it…Eva draws the right rock. She’s
living a charmed Survivor life. (3 points
for “Go on a Journey” [Eva] to Ricky!).
With her vote on the line, she has to stack tiles in layers around
a circle while standing on a balance beam before a timer runs out. She earns
her vote back at 4 layers and could earn Knowledge Is Power at 8.
I believe she’s the only player in the game with an
advantage, so choosing to go for 8 seems dumb to me. She quickly finishes 4 layers and all I can think
of is how shaky my hands would be. In what could be the dumbest move of the season,
she decides to go for an advantage that no one else could get and that she
knows has no true value.
She comes to her senses a few moments later and decides to wait
the timer out while contemplating how lucky she was to go on this Journey, as
her Idol is common knowledge.
Back at camp, Mary continues her pitch parade to Shauhin but he sees their advantages as a problem they can’t overcome. Shauhin believes he’s played a better game than Joe despite Joe having a great story, won comps and has a big personality. How high does he have to be to believe this?
Mary sees they’re not playing with dummies, but the game is outwit and outplay, not outloyal. Shauhin sees the move but doesn’t seem convinced he can flip the script and upset the status quo. (1 point for Mention ‘in this game’” [Shauhin] to Kristyn!)
At the Immunity and Reward challenge, they have to push a
wheelbarrow over obstacles while balancing a vase with a key in it. Then add a 2nd vase with another key
and use the keys to unlock puzzle pieces to finish a Survivor Arch puzzle. First to spell it right on both sides wins reward
consisting of….sushi?
Really?
Raw fish?
As a reward?
On Survivor?
Kyle has it right on one side but has forgotten the back
side as Kamila is one block away from finishing! She’s about to win her first
immunity challenge….and drops! She has to start over. Joe is fixing his as is Kamila and it’s a flat-out
race! Joe gets back to his mat first and Jeff proclaims him the winner but after
a moment’s more review, he changes his mind and says Joe has it wrong. Kamila has it right and she wins individual
immunity and reward! (16 points for “Win individual immunity and
reward) [Kamila] to Dalphyne!)
She gets to choose two people to go on reward. Mitch is an obvious choice, but Eva is
chosen for the third time. Everyone
should note that. (3 points each for “Chosen
to go on reward by someone else” [Mitch, Eva] to Carol and Ricky!). Mary is
visibly upset feeling like she’s on the bottom again.
Kamila claims she picked Eva to keep her comfortable in case
the flip happens. Eva hasn’t a care in the world since Mary is the obvious vote,
but Kamila tells us Joe’s the obvious target. The only question is “is this the
right time to do it?”
The vibe back at camp is “Funeral Dirge” (Google it) and Shauhin
is upset with himself, again, because he can’t win a challenge. Kyle also questions what’s right for him
tonight and moving forward. He doesn’t trust Mary but how does that compare to
Joe’s threat?
Pretend
Points Rule #3 - Play to win: Mid-to-late
game opportunities to dismiss a stronger player shall not be passed up, even if
allied with that player. There’s only one winner.
Mary knows her Survivor life is on the line tonight and
channels her inner Russel Hantz (5 points for “Mention a previous season’s
player” [Mary] to me!). She straight
up tells Joe she’s voting for him tonight and hopes he takes it as a
compliment. Unsettled, Joe wonders why she would do that unless she had an
idol? Everyone tries to calm Joe down,
but he thinks they’d panic in his situation.
Shauhin sees the plan against Joe materializing, and that the panic over
one person threatening him to mean Joe would flip to save himself.
At Tribal, it’s Eva’s last chance to play Safety Without
Power but she lets it expire. The day off has given everyone time to think. Mary’s here for her mom, as are Kamila and
Shauhin. The worst part of the game is
that only one person gets to win.
Mitch sees conversations shifting but Eva doesn’t. She sees herself getting to the end using the
people she trusts.
Joe sees that no winner won alone (Author’s note: except
for Chris on Edge of Extinction who spent 28 days on Exile Island, came back at
Fina 5 and won. Biggest BS I’ve ever seen). His point is – when do you start to
break the relationships to get to the end?
Kyle thinks you can make a big move but get booted out right afterward
as Mary talks about being panicked that no one was amenable to her plea. Shauhin
closes out the banter by doing Sesame Street level math.
Eva kicks off the voting (3 points for “First person
chosen to vote” [Eva] to Ricky!). When
the votes come back, Mary finds out she was right to panic. She’s voted out 6-1 with her vote falling on
Joe.
(1 point for “Received vote against” [Joe] to Roberta!)
(6 points for “Received vote against” [Mary] to me!)
(-1 point for “The tribe has spoken” [Mary] against me!)
(1 point for “Jury Member” [Mary] to me!)
So what does that mean for our scores?
Ricky’s lead grows to 16 points thanks to Eva’s Journey. Marissa is still in 2nd but has no players left. Carol is in 3rd with Mitch, who won’t lift a finger to help her. Dalphyne moves up to 4th thanks to Kamila’s immunity and reward wins. Roberta drops down to 5th as Joe didn’t do much this week besides get paranoid. I am in 6th with Mary, and so I join Marissa on the “Season Ova!” bench. They’re behind me for now but 7th place Jay and 8th place Kristyn will likely pass me soon.
